Cirque du Soleil in Vegas

Trying to decide which show to go to. I know that "O" is supposed to be really amazing, but is it worth the extra money? Also, what are the best seats/sections? Thanks so much.

Tammy Mar 8th, 2001 03:14 AM

A friend of mine recently went to "O". She said she thought the arena was too large compared to the intimate tent Cirque tours with. Her seats were pretty high up and had a poor vantage point. <BR> <BR> I 've seen a lot of posts here about this. "Mystere" is mentioned as much as "O". I know this doesn't help much. I'm trying to decide between the two also. My friend said she heard "Blue Man Group" was worth seeing. Vegas has their biggest show.

Maggi Mar 8th, 2001 03:42 AM

Lauren, I have seen many great productions in my time but I have never seen anything so amazing as "O". It was a complete sensory experience unlike anything I have ever witnessed. I wept when it was over. If you have seen and liked any other Cirque shows this one will completely blow you away.

Tammy Mar 8th, 2001 03:52 AM

Maggi, Did you see "Mystere"?

Laura Mar 8th, 2001 05:03 AM

Just saw "0" a few weeks ago. It was great, but I know Mystere is supposed to be really good as well. We had upper orchestra seats, and while it felt a little far back, they were still excellent. I don't think you can go wrong.

Lori Mar 8th, 2001 05:07 AM

Hi Lauren, <BR>I saw 'O' last year and Mystere this this. I enjoyed Mystere more than 'O', but 'O' is pretty amazing. I honestly think that you won't be disappointed by either.

Julie Mar 8th, 2001 06:29 AM

I saw Mystere and loved it. Yes it is worth the extra money, and don't worry about the seats. The theatre is made so that you can see no matter where you sit. Also there is a good height difference between you and the seat in front of you, my 5 year old sat behind a large man and he could see fine. <BR> <BR>If you want a good cheap show, I like to see King Arthur's court in the Excalibor. But don't see it in place of a Cirque performance. See it as a second show.

Patrick Mar 8th, 2001 08:28 AM

Last year I finally saw Mystere and was totally overwhelmed. Two nights later I saw O and was even more overwhelmed. It had all the elements of Mystere, plus it was all in, above, and out of the water. I was sitting in about the second or third row and I was really amazed that as performers came out of the water or were about to go under, I never saw one of them take a deep breath. It was truly as if these "creatures" lived equally in and out of the water. Both shows are definitely worth it. I personally think though that if I saw O first, I would enjoy Mystere less than I did.

Howard Mar 8th, 2001 08:55 AM

I haven't seen "O" but have seen "Mystere" twice and was totally overwhelmed and enchanted both times. Previous posters are correct when they say you can see from anywhere in the theater.

Ellen Mar 8th, 2001 12:12 PM

I have seen 'O' twice, Mystere once, and almost all of the other Cirque shows when they have travelled to NYC. The reason I liked 'O' better than Mystere was because of the water. There is absolutely no other show like it anywhere, while the rest of the Cirque performances can tend to be similar or even repetitive. I think 'O' was less theatrical than Mystere, but the staging more than made up for it. I don't know where you are from, but the regular Cirque shows travel all over the USA & Canada. Las Vegas is your only chance at 'O' since the stage was made specifically for this production. I personally wouldn't miss it.

may Mar 8th, 2001 01:12 PM

We've seen Mystere a total of 4 times, and O once. Have you seen ANY cirque du soleil shows at all? If you haven't, I'd say go to Mystere. It's less costly than O because it's been playing for some years now and O is new last year. O was great, and there are some really cool water stage effects, but it was kind of like watching olympic diving in some parts. I think Mystere is much more representative of the Cirque du soleil genre... We've also seen almost all of the other travelling Cirque shows as well as the Orlando "La Nouba"... Whatever you pick, it will be great!

Lauren Mar 8th, 2001 02:42 PM

Thanks everyone for your great replies! I have seen La Nuba in Orlando and thought that it was one of the best things I have ever seen. Unfortunately we live in Texas (Austin, now Dallas) and I don't ever remember a Cirque show ever coming through. If they ever do, I will most certainly be there. Thanks again.

maggi Mar 9th, 2001 04:36 AM

Lauren, we saw "O" first, then "Mystere". "Mystere" was anti-climactic after "O". The water stage was fascinating and magical. We saw a special on TV about how they manage the swimmers and the equipment. Each swimmer has an underwater attendant that feeds them air through a line. I agree with all of Patrick's and Ellen's comments.

Laurel Mar 19th, 2001 01:07 AM

"O" is booked through until May. You should have no problem getting into "Mystere" at Treasure Island. Well worth it.

Stephen Mar 19th, 2001 08:15 AM

Lauren, I have seen La Nouba in Orlando as well as Mystere and "O" in Las Vegas. All were incredible. Since you have already seen La Nouba, I would see "O" as Mystere and La Nouba are quite similar, whereas "O" is a different experience because of the water. There are two tricks to getting tickets to see "O" which generally sells out as soon as tickets go on sale to Bellagio guests (a couple of weeks before they go on sale to the general public). If you are planning ahead, but not planning to stay at the Bellagio, make a reservation at the Bellagio anyways and get a confirmation number. Call the box office as soon as tickets go on sale to hotel guests. They will require your confirmation number. After you purchase your tickets, call and cancel your hotel reservation. The box office has no way of knowing that you cancelled your hotel reservation, and the sale is complete by that time, so there is nothing they will do about it. <BR>If you haven't planned ahead and just arrive in Las Vegas without tickets, "O" has a standby line. Get in line two hours before the show. One hour before the show, they sell all remaining tickets at regular price. The hotel holds back approximately 25% of the seats for casino guests. They rarely give that many out, so there are usually seats available to purchase for those in the standby line.

annemarie Mar 19th, 2001 01:06 PM

When we booked in advance I did some research on the best place for my family to sit. Like this site most of the times but the lvol.com site has a ton of info on exact places you may want to sit. Go into shows and then reviews and all kinds of people clue you in on ticket areas that are better than others. Hope this helps.

Marilyn Mar 25th, 2001 05:44 AM

I would recommend "Mystere" over "O" I have seen Mystere twice and "O" once. <BR> <BR>Also, we were in Las Vegas last month with friends. They bought their tickets to Mystere three weeks in advance. I wasn't sure if we wanted to see it again, so I decided to wait. I bought our tickets the day of the show and we had much better seats than our friends. <BR> <BR>I did the same thing with "O". When I tried to get tickets in advance, I was told that the show was sold out. The woman told me to call when we got to Vegas and check again. Sure enough, we had seats in the third row center. <BR> <BR>Have fun!

Dingo Mar 28th, 2001 03:07 PM

I have seen Mystere twice and O once. Although O is perhaps technically more awesome because of the water, I still prefer Mystere. Either way, you'll enjoy the show greatly. Also, I think someone else mentioned Blue Man Group already, but I highly recommend that, too. If I remember correctly, it was much less expensive than O, and maybe less than Mystere, too. Note: My 60+ mother didn't enjoy Blue Man Group very much, so there may be "generational" issues?? However, Cirque shows are enjoyable for everyone. <BR> <BR>Enjoy!

tony Mar 31st, 2001 07:27 AM

O is great, and worth every penny.<BR><BR>BY all means, go!

kathy Apr 2nd, 2001 05:36 AM

I have seen both "O" and Mystere and I think they are pretty equal. Both are fabulous, you can't go wrong with either. If money is an issue, see Mystere, you won't be disappointed. Another great show is Danny Gans at the Mirage. Totally different type of show. . . musical comedy. He is fantastic!

Alina Apr 2nd, 2001 08:43 AM

Yes, yes. It's definitely worth the money (and I don't have a lot of it.) I've seen both, the "o" show, and Mystere, and I would recomment the "O" show if you can get tickets.

noe leon Apr 5th, 2001 06:01 AM

"O" is out of this world! The best show that I ever seen.

Carolyn Apr 13th, 2001 09:59 AM

I too have seen Mystere twice and O once and agree with previous posts. You won't go wrong with either or both. If you must choose only one, I would suggest going to the performance that fits your schedule best and that has the best seating available. The first time we saw Mystere was at the 10:30 pm peformance. Since we were still on EST we were exhausted and weren't able to give the show the attention it requires and deserves. We sat in the 3rd row, center, at O; if I go again I would prefer to sit in the 15th or so row. The closer rows allow an intimate view of the performers, but I found it hard to take in the whole stage from the 3rd row. Throughout Mystere the performers are often above or throughout the audience, so I found "mid-audience" to be best.

gayle Apr 14th, 2001 02:06 AM

The Cirque Du Soleil is playing in Melbourne Australia at the moment and I am going to see "Alegria" Has this shown in the States and if so how does it compare to "Mystere"?

topper Apr 14th, 2001 07:26 PM

to the top

Helen Apr 15th, 2001 05:40 PM

There is no contest. O or eau, which means water in French is like a Felini movie. You will be transfixed by the sights, skills and imagination of the producers and performers. The costumes, makeup and original music are something I've never seen anywhere. <BR>We saw Mystere. It paled by comparison. <BR>Best and most unique show ever!

Dindi O Apr 17th, 2001 04:33 AM

You must see "MYSTERE"! What a show! I was amazed. It was like one of the 7 wonders of the world....I have not seen "O" but will when I go back to Vegas. I think it is a must to see "Mystere" first to fully appreciate, "O" or so I have heard. You don't even think of the money you spent on the show when you leave....you are lost in the feeling of the wonderful performances! Enjoy!

Dean Apr 17th, 2001 04:18 PM

OI have seen "O" twice, and would spend the money to see it again. It's an amazing show, with awesome music, and a truly enjoyable experience that you won't soon forget!

JC May 27th, 2001 11:01 AM

How much (ball park) do these shows cost? <BR> <BR>I have this awesome responsibility of taking my (foreign, but cosmopolitan) parents-in-law (both in their 70s), my wife and my 9-year-old son to Vegas in mid June. [My wife and I have been to Vegas once before we had a child.] <BR> <BR>I am leaning toward 'Mystere' at the Treasure Island. Would it not be risky to to not make advance reservations? <BR> <BR>Regards.

Suzy May 27th, 2001 05:36 PM

"O" sells out EVERY show well in advance, and Mystere sells out every show, but allows a little more procrastination. <BR>"O" is now up to $110 I believe. <BR>

carol May 27th, 2001 05:37 PM

Made reservations for Mystere exactly 3 months in advance and still couldn't get the seats I wanted. Still got good seats though. I didn't want to take the chance....Tickets were $88 inclu tax. CAN'T WAIT! <BR>

Bob May 30th, 2001 04:23 PM

We have tickets in June to see Mystere for the 2nd time in 7 mos. Without a doubt the best show of its type, the one to see in Vegas and well worth the money. If you are planning to see it, order your tickets as far in advance as possible, for the best seat selection. Avoid the side sections and the upper rows. Enjoy.

David Jun 24th, 2001 10:37 AM

Alegre is essentially the same show as Mystere; it is their road troupe. It must have been in Australia for over two years now, as I saw its last show in Canada (Ottawa), just before it left for down under.<BR><BR>We saw O in April and had loge seats which are excellent as you can look down on the stage. Those objects moving around are actually being pushed by SCUBA divers in black suits.

Jack Jun 24th, 2001 10:47 AM

I saw Allegre in Australia and have seen Mystere at TI.<BR>While the theme is the same, I thought Allegre was worth about $20 (my tix were free), while I think Mystere is worth every bit of the ~$90 price.<BR>And "O" is indeed worth the new price over $100.

milton Jun 24th, 2001 01:01 PM

I've seen both in Vegas. O once and mystere 3 times. When Mystere was the only show it was the best show in town, but O is even better. The water makes it unique and well worth the extra ticket price. the catch is getting tickets...O is much harder. If there is only one or two of you, standing in line as a standy often works. No discount though, and you may be separated from your partner.
