Cirque du Soileau
We have tickets to Cirque du Soileau for tuesday the 14th. My daughter lives in Culver City near LAX. How long will it take us to get to the Staples Center. Should we have dinner first in Culver City or go the area of the event? How about route? We are rent a car with Never Lost GPS so that will help. Thanks, Sadie

Staples Center is downtown at 1111 South Figueroa. Route:
1. Take the I-405 south to the I-105 East. 2. Take I-105 east to I-110 North. 3. Take I-110 North to Pico Blvd. exit. Turn on Pico heading west. 4. Turn left onto Figueroa, and you can't miss it. No traffic, it will take 20 minutes. Give at least 40 minutes, factoring in traffic and finding parking. You know, I've never eaten around Staples, so I can't recommend places right nearby. I personally would eat first. Enjoy Cirque du Soleil!! |
You might take the 405 N to the 10 E to the 110 towards downtown. Take the first exit and you are there.
Might be faster in rush hour than the 105. |
Actually, in rush hour the I-10 will probably be busier between the 405 and the Harbor (the 110), even on a Tuesday. From Culver City/Fox Hills, the 105 should be a little faster (except for a little congestion around Hawthorne Airport). If it's not rush hour, your route (which is a little shorter in distance, if I'm not mistaken) would be indeed faster.

In rush hour, from Culver City, the fastest way to get there is not the freeway. Instead, drive straight up Sepulveda (north) to Olympic Blvd. Turn right on Olympic (heading east). Take Olympic all the way downtown. The tents will be right there on your right, just after you go under the freeway and hit Figueroa.
This is the only route I take from West L.A. during rush hour to get downtown. From the corner of Sepulveda and Olympic it takes precisely 30 minutes. My husband drives home from the LAX area. When he takes the 405, it takes him an hour to get to that spot. The 10 eastbound is worse. When he takes Sepulveda, it cuts the time down substantially. There's not a lot of places to eat in the immediate vicinity of the event, and parking downtown (including the staples center) runs $20, so keep that in mind if you plan to park and eat somewhere, then park again for the event. There is a metro line stop on the other side of the staples center that will take you to places downtown where there's more restaurants, but I'd either have a light early dinner either before you head out, half-way there (in the Beverly Hills area) or munch on the junk food at the event. Enjoy the experience! |
I agree, Surfergirl. I usually take Venice down to Staples. I think it depends on where they live. If they have to backtrack to the 105 then that route would take longer.
If they live in Culver City, say, closer to Jefferson and Sepulveda, then it would make sense to take the 10 or surface streets. |
Brava, surfergirl! I think your solution is the best all-around (see what happens when you move away from an area? You forget these little tricks...)!
sadieeb, surfergirl gives you the best route. And I agree with her: Grab something before, maybe a snack there, maybe light nibbles afterward (how about hitting the diner at The Standard on Sunset, or even Mel's Diner). And enjoy the show!! |
I live in Culver City and we went to Cirque a few weeks ago. we went to an 8pm show on Thursday night. Took us about 30 minutes and we took 405 to the 10, no problems.
I would eat in Culver City or the surrounding areas. We found a guarded lot directly across from the Cirque for $5. Have fun! Not sure if it is always that cheap. |
