Circus Circus, Excalibur, or Tropicana?

Hi,

I need your feedback/reommendations on these hotels based on your experiences w/ them. Circus Circus room rate is ~$10 less than the other but I'm not sure which one to book. What I'm looking for is good price, good location, and decently clean.

What I know is:

1. Tropicana is pretty old; however, the picture of the room looks nice. :>)
2. Circus Circus is up north of the strip and the picture of the room does not look impressive even for the tower room.
3. Both Excalibur & Tropicana are in relatively good location.

Many thanks in advance,

K.

Thanks,

Stick to the lower end of the strip; in other words, nix on circus circus - that part of town has gotten pretty run down.

Oh bugger SKIP EXACLIBUR! The smell of the slop on the buffet and the entire hotel still makes me queasy ug ug. I would pick any other hotel over the Excalibur but I guess my vote would be Tropicana but what about Ballys if you are trying to go reasonable.

Unfortunately, Bally is $125-$195 Sun-Thu next week.

My search returned only those hotels are within the range of < $75 for next week.

Statrosphere is much less expensive but I'll pass it. :>)

Thanks for your suggestion.

Flamingo sometimes has some good rates and they are mid-strip. I would check their website as that is where I recently got 55/night rate.

I like Flamingo, too. The room is kind of basic but the location, the pool, the walking distance to paking lot, and the garden are great! It is even better when they have pkg @$55!

Circus Circus and Excalibur are out... :>) Maybe, I try Monte Carlo this time. It is $85 vs. Flamingo $75 (for next week).

Thanks,

K.

I stayed at Circus Circus a couple of years ago and I'd never stay there again. They first tried to put us in a dumpy room in a Motel-6-type building in the parking lot--definitely unacceptable! But even after we were moved to a nicer room in the main building, the place focuses so much on getting you in the casino that there is not ONE single comfortable chair in the entire building! Not in your room, not in the lobby, not by the pool, nowhere. I go on vacation to relax and it was impossible at Circus Circus.

On the other hand...my kids loved the indoor amusement park, the monorail, and the free animal shows. The area isn't as glamorous as where the newer places are, but it's perfectly safe. It's a short, easy drive to both the newer end of the strip and the downtown area. And it was a very good value for the money.

None of those would be my first (or even fifth) choice, but out of the three I would pick Tropicana. Make sure it's a tower room though. The garden rooms are unimpressive.

We stayed at the Tropicana this spring and the rooms were nice, very clean. The pool was great. I would definitely choose it over the other two.

I stayed at the Tropicana for a family reunion last november. While we didn't spend alot of time there, the rooms were nice, cool, clean, the casino fun yet samll, and it was easy to walk to New York, MGM, etc. We found it to be a good location. They do have a 24 hour restaurant and a big breakfast buffet and Express check out.

Did you check the Boardwalk? It's a small hotel, next to the Monte Carlo. Its prices are usually cheaper and you're closer to the middle of the strip. I haven't stayed there, but reviews are pretty favorable- I think it's part of the Holiday Inn chain. Monte Carlo is another good choice... Have fun!

I have stayed in all three. Circus is a total dump, Excalibur is kinda gross, Tropicana is semi-OK.

Recently we stayed at Monte Carlo for $69 a night, it was far superior to the above-mentioned.

Cheapovegas.com gives the Boardwalk a BAD review. I would not stay there.

Kayla-
Monte Carlo has a "Fall Fling Package" for $75

marz_n_manda Oct 17th, 2003 10:57 AM

Gotribe- Granted, the Boardwalk is not the best place if you're looking for a hotel/casino that has everything. I agree wholeheartedly about the casino and restaurant reviews. Even so, you sometimes can't beat the location/price. Sometimes all you need is a cheap place to put your head.
All that being said, the Monte Carlo is definitely a better choice for not much more $. Hope this helps!

Kayla,

By all menas spend the extra $10 if you have to to stay at the Monte Carlo. Circus, Circus and Excaliber are AWFUL--yet for totally different reasons. The Trop is fine (tower room) but Monte Carlo is by far the best of what you've mentioned.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much all of you for sharing your recommendations/experience. After reading all the comments re Circus Circus & Excalibur; there are 2 choices left: Tropicana & Monte Carlo. Flamingo is in good location and has a beautiful garden to look out fr. the bed room but my parents had stayed there 6 months ago. Final choice is Monte Carlo; I kept Monte Carlo reservation @ $85/night; now they bumped up the price to $95/night ( just hrs ago!). Luxor is $79/night; however, my husband did not like their lay out. Monte Carlo seems to be a better choice; they can walk to Paris or Bellagio.

My mother's motto is "I don't need a fancy room; just a place to sleep." With $20/night diff fr. Tropicana , we would like them to have a nice place to stay for a few days.

Now my husband and I can rest assure my parents will enjoy their mini paid vacation in Las Vegas. :>)

Thanks again everyone!

Just back from a 4 weeks Southwest trip
with four nights at the Barbary Coast - may I suggest this small Victorian Casino, on theother corner from Bally's, Bellagio and Caesar's, which we booked from Australia for about $50US Sun to Thurs. Nice big room, small but elegant bath, best part _ terrific view of the Bellagio fountains from out room, and right in the thick of the strip. Check out Cheapolasvegas.com for great commentaries on all casinos.

Have also stayed twice before at the Circus - you need your car to drive to the major attractions, but our rooms were fine. It really is too far away from things, I think.

Thanks for your latest recomendation. My parents seem to be happy to try the Monte Carlo this time. I'll keep your suggestion for their future Las Vegas vacation plan.

Monte Carlo seems like a nice choice in my opinion. Looked clean comfortable and fun.
