Circus Circus?
I'm going to the Circus Circus in December for a few nights. Has anyone stayed there *recently* that can give me an opinion? I don't mind loud children or bad food --- I just want clean sheets, an easy walk to nearby casinos, and a hotel that doesn't look like it might crumble to the ground at any second. Thanks!
|
Hey Mel, are they giving you that room for free?
If not, I think you'll be happier staying almost anywhere on the south strip compared to CC.
The deals available right now are spectacular, even at the better hotels.
CC is not a convenient walk to any of the good casinos, it has no actual strong points and that part of the strip is run down and dumpy.
For $30-50 a night you can get a room at one of the newer casinos near the desirable destinations (unless you're travelling on one of the few busy days in December).
|
I have not stayed there, but there are only about 3-4 other casinos in the immediate area (one of them being slots of fun, which is ONLY slots). If you're looking to be in the "heart" of it all where you can walk to multiple casinos, some of which would be the mega-resorts, this is not the hotel for you. If you simply want clean sheets and at least one other "change of scenary" nearby, it'll serve your purpose.

If this is your first time to Vegas, i HIGHLY recommend staying on the main part of the strip (you should be able to find MANY GREAT deals for December). If they are simply out of your budget, i would even consider staying downtown.

What are your travel dates and budget (as well as current rate at Circus Circus), maybe we can help you find a (better) deal.
|
i wouldn't stay there just because it is a fare distance from the "heart" of the strip. i'm guessing but i would think it is about a half hour walk between there and ceasures, bellagio, etc.
|
Mel,
That end of the Strip is a ghost-town. It hasn't seen much action since Frank, Sammy, and Dino died.

Stay at the other end. You can probably get a comparable room rate at one of several properties nearer to the center of the strip (ie. between Treasure Island and Manadalay Bay.)
|
I stayed there a couple of years ago, and loved it (and I don't even have kids). The room was gorgeous (and $38 a night), and I didn't have any trouble with the location. Of course, I'm not 60 years old and overweight, so I can walk for 15 minutes without having a heart attack. We were able to walk everywhere without any problem.

Definitely recommend it.
|
Mel, I think you will love it. It is everything you're asking for. You will get loud children and bad food. The sheets will probably be clean, and if not they will most certainly bring you new ones. The hotel does not look like it's going to crumble to the ground at any second. It is an easy walk to a couple of the casinos, but not the big major ones. What more are you looking for since you have already said you are staying there?
|
Mel - Look into the San Remo Hotel... it's a great property next to the Tropicana, MGM, NYNY, and its exactly what you are looking for... Second choice... Imperial Palace... Trust me buddy on this one...

I was at the Circus Circus in February of this year and had a really nice room in the new wing. I was actually suprised that it was as nice as it was. The only complaint I had was the cigarette smoke in the lobby. You know ther is nothing worse than an ex-smoker so i'm sure that the air system was working just fine. It was also a little out of the waay and there was a little construction going on but I was there to go to the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton and it is close to that! Normally I would recommend another more central location but it was not bad and resonably priced. Just stay off the trolley. It takes forever to get anywhere!! Have fun!!

Mel, I assume it's Las Vegas, not Reno? In Reno it's a very good location. In Vegas - heard from a friend - long walk to the street. For the same price or less you'd be better off in Sahara, and the buffet there is superb!
|
Recommending the Sahara over Circus Circus is like saying having an appendectomy's not as bad as having a C-section. Ummm....no thanks, I'll pass on both, please.
As for the Circuc Circus being a "long walk to the street", it's about 100 feet like most of the casinos.

The first 2 weeks of December, for sure, is the slowest time of the year.
Staying Sunday thru Thursday nights are always significantly cheaper than weekend nights.
Circus Circus certainly meets your requirements but it is also possible to upgrade to a more desirable hotel if you're interested.
Here's a couple of websites you should check out:

www.lvol.com
www.cheapovegas.com

Additionally, EVERY hotel-casino has their own websites. Visit each one and look for 'web or internet specials,' 'promotional rates,' 'hot deals,' etc. for lower rates.

Las Vegas hotel-casinos advertise heavily in the Los Angeles Times. Look at the website for 'latimes,' get a price from the ads, then call the 1-800 phone number of the hotel requesting that advertised rate.

Good luck and have a great time!
So, here I am with another night of insomnia and wishing it was I planning a Vegas trip next. Also, playing with my new ISDN computer connection; HUGE difference in loading times..so fast!

Circus, Circus website is offering $34 room between now and 2/14/02. Can't beat that with anything. The rooms look quite decent as you've probably aleady seen...not luxurious but nice.

Did a quick query of a couple other places and arbitrarily used the dates of 12/9 through 12/12 (4 nights, Sun-Wed):
Aladdin (thru a discount website): $49
Imperial (their website): $55
Riveria: $49
Treasure Island (their website): $59
It drops to $49 from 12/16 thru 12/20.
However, TI recently spent $65 Million in renovations and their standard rooms look very very nice. TI's location has Circus beat by a lot (next door to the Mirage which is next door to Caesars).
So, considering I could stay 4 nights at Treasure Island 4 nights for only $100 more, I would choose TI for its much nicer rooms, its location, and because I dislike being surrounded by crying, screaming, yelling, running, door banging rag ruts. But that's me and you're you so I think you'll be satisfied with Circus if you'd rather put that $100 toward gambling, a nice dinner, or a show rather than a room.
Hope I've help you a little, Mel. At one of the websites I gave you earlier there's a map of the strip showing locations of hotel/casinos...probably the www.cheapvegas.com guide. The guy writes in a humorous off the wall style but he's got some good info not to be missed.
Good luck and have fun!

Mel, just wanted to compliment you on a great post. Concise, and didn't slam the guy for choosing Circus Circus when it may suit his needs (as well as give reasons why you like others better)!
|
Hey, wait a sec!! Mel's not a guy!! :) But thanks Mel's Helper and Tina, your posts were helpful. I don't mind walking a mile or two, and I'm mainly swayed by that $34/night rate. I'm not going for upscale -- hey, this is Sin City, after all -- but I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be sharing my bed with bugs. Thanks -- your comments were reassuring. Can't wait to get there!!

ATTENTION: Vic ([email protected]

In your post of 11/06 at 1:41 p.m. on this thread, you wrote:

"For $30-50 a night you can get a room at one of the newer casinos near the desirable destinations (unless you're travelling on one of the few busy days in December)."

We are a couple who can go ANYTIME from 12/1 through 12/22.
Please name those nicer properties (other than Circus Circus) with rooms between $30-$50.

Thank you.

See the "Mel's Helper" post above.
Look at the websites for the hotels you're interested in, check for internet specials; also call the toll free # and ask the hotel directly. Also check booking sites like www.180096hotel.com and www.lvrs.com.
One frustrating thing about LV hotels is how many different rates you can find depending on which source you check.
Stratosphere (not a hotel I'd recommend) is even having a $9 per room special.
