do the cinema's in waikiki issue monthly passes?if so do you have to be a US resident?
we are a couple from the uk who will be coming to oahu on a 21 day vacation so passes may save us money.any info or advice welcome.

I've never heard of any of our theatres offering monthly passes. You can get discount movie tickets through AAA or other organizations, but they are not usually good until a movie is 2 weeks old. The best deal is to go to the early shows...before about 5pm, the tickets are way cheaper, $4.75 vs $7 for the evening shows. Consolidated theatres, the largest chain, sells a gift pack- 2 movie tickets, 2 medium drinks and a huge popcorn for $20. You can use these at any show. the nicest theatre/ cinema in town is now the Ward Center 16 complex. It's new and has high back staduium seating, good food (even fruit!), free parking, and lots of shops and restaraunts around the theatre. Catch the #8 bus from Waikiki- it is just past Ala moana Center.

Also, I believe Tuesdays offer cheaper rates. These are early shows, too.

$7 for a movie? you are soo lucky! We pay almost $20US for a movie in Tokyo, and it was $8.50 in NY at Christmas.

Tell me, why would anyone go all the way from the UK to Hawaii, then spend their time in a MOVIE THEATRE?

Lots of hotels have PPV in room movies.

we will be in oahu for three weeks ,also we will get to see films that will not be released in the uk for about another seven or eight months, plus going to the movies is something we enjoy and its our vacation so we like to spend it doing things we like

Linda - I think you also asked about Dave and Busters. The Ward Center 16 moview theater is in the same location as Dave and Busters - both are very new (less than 6 mo old). Lcuy was right about the cost of movies, etc. I've never seen/heard of monthly theater passes here in Hawaii.

Linda,

What sort of places do you like? I am actually not very familar with bars in Waikiki as I tend to avoid that area. However, in the downtown area two popular spots are Oceans which is in Restaurant Row and the bar at the top of the Ala Moana Mall (near Bubba Gumps restaurant) - the name of the bar excapes me right now. Oceans is 23 and over, which makes for a *slightly* older crowd (if you are late 20's./early 30's you'll fit right in). In Ala Moana I think the bar is 21 and over - they have good live music on weekend nights and the place gets very packed and active. The bar at the W hotel is quite happening. I hear Duke's is good, but I have never been there. Lastly, for cocktails at sunset check out The House Without a Key in the Halekulani hotel in Waikiki - fancy, with live Hawaiian music, hula dancer, ocean backdrop - really lovely.
