Cinco de Mayo in Taos
 

Just discovered that we are coincidentally spending May 5 in Taos. Should I just follow the conventional advice already on here about where to eat? Is this a huge night in NM? Reserve ahead? We're only there one night.

We've been there (Santa Fe not Taos) over May 5th and I don't remember anything special but the mexican restaurants will surely have a fun atmosphere.

Orlando's is the big mexican place in Taos. It will probably have a band of some sort and lots of action outside on the patio. They don't take reservations but have a sign-in list.

If I only had one night in Taos for a meal Orlando's would not be my choice.

Seems I've read Joseph's or Doc Marten's. ??

Yep. Our favorite turned out to be Lambert's. Second would be Doc's, then Graham's Grill and Joseph's tied.

Thanks Beach Girl. I think I remember reading your report. I've been trying to 'sort' of remain unstructured for meals because our hotels appear to all have breakfast, plus the afternoon wine and tidbits so I don't really know just what we'll feel like eating. DH always skews the mix anyway, if he sees something he likes. I just don't want him to pick something that everyone has said 'don't go there' and 'don't miss this'.

Cinco de Mayo is not really any kind of event in NM.

I agree with Orlando's for dinner for a one night stay. It is north of town and has really good food.

The reason I asked is they do make a big deal of it, and St. Pat's Day, etc, in Alaska. Maybe we're just hard up for festivity up here!

The Native Americans have no "love loss" for Hispanics due to historic reasons. More Native Americans in Taos then Hispanics.

It is a lovely place to visit, you won't miss not having a festival.

IF the peublo has a festival when you are there, that would be worthwhile.

Thanks for the insight. I'd driven through Navajo and Hopi areas in Arizona before, but have never been in NM.
