Cincinnati visit
 

Has anyone been to Cincinnati? What sites would you recommend in seeing when visiting?<BR>Is it difficult to get to the city from the Airport by public transportation? Any good recommendations for motels, hotel, or B@B's?<BR>Thanks.

The airport is not very close to the city, and unfortunately there aren't that many cabs even. Public trans would be near impossible. <BR>The Cincinnatian is nice but expensive. There are several others in downtown Cincinnati as well. It's a city defined by many neighborhoods, but you should see the Union Terminal, which is now a museum center but used to be a major train station. The main attraction is the building itself. It is one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the country. Mt. Adams is an arts and nightlife-style district. Go to the top of the Carew Tower; it offers a good view of the city and its seven hills.<BR>It sort of depends on where you'll be and what you want to do.

For cheap eats, you can't beat Skyline Chili. A Cincy mainstay.

The chili is decidedly average in my opinion, but then again it's all down to personal choice.<BR><BR>Yeah the airport is in northern kentucky, so it's a bit of a trek to get to Cincy proper. The Carew Tower gives great views over Ohio/Kentucky but I did NOT enjoy the top lift (elevator) as it was tiny - would not be fun stuck in that.<BR><BR>The zoo is worth a visit as is Union Terminal. They have an omnimax inside which is both fun and nauseating at the same time.<BR><BR>Mount Adams is like a mini San Francisco in style, plenty of cool bars to hang out in.<BR><BR>I like Buttermilk Hill, as you get a great breeze at the top, cooling a Northern European like me back down to acceptable temperatures.<BR><BR>Try one of the two Montgomery Inn restaurants or my particular favourite to remind me of home, Nicholson's, A Scottish restaurant in downtown's Walnut St (or Avenue or something).<BR><BR>Check out www.enquirer.com for more info on the city.

The chili is worth trying even if only to know that you have done so - it's a part of the Cincinatti experience as it is NOT like the chili served anywhere else in the US. It's a completely different thing - I'm not crazy about it but it was interesting and palatable (many folks love it). On my one visit there I stayed with friends in Covington KY where the airport is. It's a cute little town with some interesting shops and cafes on a historic main street and there's also a section of beautifully restored and very historic homes on the river facing Cincinnati proper. Pleasant place to wander for a couple hours if time and schedule permits.

<BR>Check out Paramounts King's Island. It has great rides and great live musical shows!

Newport, KY also has a great aquarium on the river, with some shops & restaurants. There are some hotels here & you would have view of river & Downtown Cincy. Over labor day weekend there are totally awesome fireworks on the river. About 500,000 people go to see them on both sides of the river. In Sept (not sure which weekend) there is Oktoberfest, German food festival, which is great. I also highly recommend the zoo, have you ever seen white lions? Have a great time!

Actually, Gold Star Chili is better than Skyline.

Why, dare I ask, would anyone voluntarilly visit Cincinnati. Don't mean to be rude but am very curious.

My Uncle lives there and I wanted to visit him, but will be unable to stay with him at his house. Your funny, because he hasn't encouraged me to visit, stating that it isn't the best town. However, I miss him and it's been a long time since I've seen him. I go standby on the airplane and really could even just visit for the day and return home that evening. But, I'm hearing that airport is a distance and maybe should stay the night.

at least make sure that you have some of Grater's Ice cream....another site said that its the best around
