Cigarettes Maximum Cartons Allowed?

I'm leaving for Las Vegas and a friend asked me to purchase cigarettes for him. I'm leaving from Vegas to NY. Is there a limit on how many cartons you can take with you on a flight?
Thanks

You don't have to go thru customs, who's going to know?

I would only worry if you are transporting cigarettes across the border for resale/profit. I buy cigarettes (against my better judgment) when I go down to VA for those up here in NJ. The taxes are a killer. $50 a carton or more vs. $23. ((b))

I was going to write that since any crime would be a NYS crime that I doubt the Federal TSA workers would care. But maybe they would (even though I'm sure you'd be "under the radar") if you read
Cigarette Smuggling Linked to Terrorism

By Sari Horwitz Washington Post Staff Writer

"Smugglers with ties to terrorist groups are acquiring millions of dollars from illegal cigarette sales and funneling the cash to organizations such as al Qaeda and Hezbollah, federal law enforcement officials say, prompting a nationwide crackdown on black market tobacco."

Our NYS government now expects us to pay taxes on ANY out-of-state purchases and two years ago placed a special area on our income tax forms to declare & pay taxes on them. Like they say, the only sure things in life are death & taxes.
