A few years ago, we had a very good roast beef dinner at midday on Christmas at the Symphony Cafe in the Mayflower Hotel at Central Park West off Columbus Circle (around West 60th St.) YOu'll not find too many restaurants open that day.

Suggest you obtain a Zagat's and look at the back sections. And then you may wish to call a few places. Also, check with your hotel, and some restaurants - someone may know about a place open Christmas.

Your best bets will definitely be restuarants located in hotels; most others, beyond diners and Chinese, will likely be closed.

in regard to the comment about getting a "zagats" guide...the guide is now available online at zagat.com or zagats.com for free! Cheers!

The Mayflower Hotel and it's restaurant have closed. Look on the Times. They have ads for places open on Sunday--mostly expensive pre-fix.

For those who didn't realize this thread is 4 years old, don't get excited by that comment about Zagat being free online. It isn't!
