The Christmas season is a magical time to be in Santa Fe. If you are staying in the Plaza area you can reach quite a few places with only a minimal amount of walking.

Check out the schedule at the Lensic, an old theater which will have Christmas concerts (vocal and orchestral). We also saw a very nice (free) chamber music concert at the Georgia O'Keefe Museum a few years ago during the Christmas season. There should also be special events at the Palace of the Governors. Make dinner reservations for Christmas Eve and enjoy the entire downtown area with the luminarias and farolitos along the sidewalks and rooftops. Midnight mass at the cathedral is also quite special, even if you are not Catholic.

Check out the Santa Fe visitors bureau website as it gets closer to the season for a list of everything available.

Just sitting in a downtown hotel lounge with a glass of wine in front of a pinon fire is wonderful during the holiday season. Santa Fe really has beautiful Christmas decorations in all the hotels and restaurants.

Beachgirl247 is our expert on Santa Fe; here is a link to photos she took last Xmas:

Type her name in the seach box above and hit enter to see her wonderful suggesions.

I also have some, type my name into the search box.

There is Museum Hill that is a must see, the galleries are great but will involving walking on some narrow streets [I am assumming you mean you don't like to "hike", that regular walking is ok.]

There are lots of special events in Santa fe for xmas. As time gets closer, you can check out Santa fe tourest website for specifics. The farolito tour is something not to be missed.

In ABQ, lots there too. Again, if you click on my name and wade through a lot of my threads, you will find some that will give you ideas that include the museum, zoo, funky shopping areas, my favorite restaurants, and much more.

Hope this helps.

My wife and I have spent numerous Christmases in Santa Fe at Christmas. What a place.
Keep in mind, there can be snow at Christmas. (We've had snow more times than not when we've gone.) I mention that because of your comment re: walking.
There are numerous restaurants and everyone has their favorites. Search this site and you'll find discussions of restaurants and things to do during the day.
Have fun. Santa Fe is simply a wonderful place.

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GREAT RESTAURANT FOR CHRISTMAS EVE DINNER IN SANTA FE. I AM TRYING TO GET ALL MY DUCKS IN A ROW FOR OUR VACATION. WE ARE 2 SENIORS AND PLAN TO RENT A HOUSE ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN. IS ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH "SHARTONHOUSE" I FOUND IT ON VRBO AND IT IS 12 MINUTES FROM THE PLAZA. WE HAVE A TEA CUP POODLE WE WILL BE TRAVELING WITH. WE ARE FROM VA. AND THIS IS OUR 1ST TRIP TO NM. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR LODGING WITH A PET OR ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE.
THANKS, LIZ
