Christmas in NY
 

I go to NYC each Christmas with my family ages ranging from 5 to 75. Did the Christmas Show at Radio City, Ballet at Lincoln Center, St. Patrick's, FAO, the tree, stores, the tree and A Christmas Carol at Madison Sq Garden. What can we do this year? <BR>Thanks

Hi Patty: <BR>The Cathedral of St John the Divine on 110 St and Cathedral Parkway (Columbus Avenue)has something going on weekly leading up to Christmas. Even just going there is a special. I'll check around over the weekend and see what I come up with.

Patty, have you had dinner at Tavern on the Green at that time of year? It's pricey but if you feel like splurging Christmas is the time of year. All the fairy lights outside and the beautiful chandeliers inside make it look like a magic wonderland. Speaking of which, another restaurant idea is Rolf's, a German restaurant which is on Third Avenue and 22nd Street. I'm sure it's listed in Zagats. It's an old restaurant, I guess around turn of the last century, with a great old copper-topped bar and German beers on tap. The whole restaurant is done up for Christmas in evergreen boughs dripping with lights and dolls and ornaments. Talk about a wonderland! And very good hearty German food to take the chill off. I love to go there.

Try to get out to the Bronx Zoo in the evening; during the holiday period, they decorate the whole place with lights in animal (natch) themes. I haven't been, but hope to make it this year, as it's supposed to be fantastic. If your crew can handle a bit more outdoors in the cold, how about an ice skating/spectating and hot choccolate excursion to Wollman Rink in Central Park. Also, go to the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center in lower Manhattan--elaborate holiday decorations are quite something.

And, let's add the Bronx Botanical Gardens.

I second the Bronx Zoo. Even the NY Aquarium. You will have the whole place to yourself (practically). <BR>

Just an amendment to Howard's post, in case you look for info on the botanical gerdens in the Bronx (almost adjacent to the zoo)--it is actually called the New York Botanical Garden.

Riverdance,the new Planetarium (get adv. tkts) & see the oragami tree in the Natural History Museum; have you visited the Soho/Tribeca/Village? Very cool! <BR>Have you been to the open plaza in the World Financial Center? The Big Apple Circus; check out the New Victory Theatre. How about a trip to Chelsea Piers to see a fun place; Pier HOuse restaurant or the new Bateau Mouche NY. <BR>You can skate at Chelsea Piers.
