Christmas in New York

Hi. My husband and I are spending December 21 - 26 in NY City this year. Neither of us has been to the city before. We are staying at 60 Thompson Hotel. I am planning on getting tickets to see the Rockettes on Christmas Day. Any suggestions for restaurants or festive things that we can do on our stay? we are both in our late 20's and would like to go to some hip restaurants/lounges, etc... Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Don't miss the Angel tree and Creche at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is amazing. Great choice to see the Rockettes. Get the "Golden Circle" seats if you can.

Several years ago I bought a little book titled: "New York Holiday Guide, The Best places to eat, drink, shop and celebrate." by Charles Suisman and Carol Molesworth. Its just what you need. I don't know if its still in print, but here are the particulars. ISBN # 1-885492-87-1 Phone #212-645-8025 for more information and a web site www.manhattanusersguide.com listed inside.

NY is beautiful during the holiday. Enjoy just walking around.

Hey Ashleymassi:

Had to take a minute to think...Christmas in my part of town is pretty cool. So, here's my suggestions:

a) Visit the TKTS booth in Times Square (cheap tickts to Broadway shows)
b) Skating at Rock.Cntr. & visit the tree
c) Central Park Zoo
d) Radio City Christmas Spectacular
e) Museum Mile -Fifth Avenue Museums (from 106th street down to about 65th street)
f) Chinatown & next door Little Italy
g) Check out the major Department store Windows on Fifth Avenue (done up real nice) Saks, Lord & Taylor
h) Shopping in Soho & lunch or dinner
i) Head uptown to Harlem to Appollo Theatre & take in a show
J)Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry (& see the statue of Liberty)

Suggestion: Time Out New York is a good magazine. Maybe they have a web site..

I hope this helps.

I try to go to the Nutcracker every year - it reminds me of the special Christmas ladies days in the city when I was 8 - 11 or so - but I still love every performance.

Also, Rockefeller Center ane the tree - all on decorations on Park Avenue - generally just walking all over town on a beautiful crisp day.

If it's your first trip to NYC don't miss a chance to fly in a helicopter around Manhatten.About $100 for a 12 min ride with Liberty Helicopters , you fly close to the Statue of liberty ,and take in the BIG Apple from a unique perspective.A once in a lifetime thing to do that you will not regret. If it snows leading up to your stay, Central Park covered in snow truly makes it feel like a White Christmas you don't have to dream about any longer as you are in NYC living it.
