CHristmas in Duck

We have been offered a beautiful house for free in Duck over Xmas-does anyone know if there is anything open or going on at that time? Thx

tpatricco Dec 7th, 2004 01:31 PM

Guess I'm not the only one who hasn't a clue where "Duck" is.

Be more specific and maybe somebody will help you.

uuhhhh Dec 7th, 2004 01:39 PM

wouldn't be my first choice, but what the heck, it's free.....

i much prefer goose.

What a coincidence, I have been offered a beautiful house for free in Chicken. I'm not sure if there is anything going on in Duck, Chicken or Goose, but you can roost assured, I will be hatching a plan shortly
BGOK!

My guess is that the OBX are wonderfully quiet at that time. I'd like a break like that.

LOL, Duck is in the Outer Banks. Might be nice. Might be cold. Definitely on the quiet side as it's on the quiet side in the summer.

You guys *crack* me up!

There is substantial year round community in the Outer Banks as well as a large crowd who spend the holidays there. I think you'll find that with the obvious exception of Christmas day that regular businesses (groceries, movie theatre, walmart, hardware, video store, etc.) will be open. Restaurants and specialty shops are going to be have spottier hours. Some will be closed for the season.

I'd take it in a heartbeat if you enjoy beachwalks and cocooning in a nice house for the week. I'd be less inclined if you were looking for dining, shopping and eveing entertainment that week.

Quiet is fine by us. Just wondered if there was anything in particular holiday related that goes on and we wanted to take advantage of the offer.

For those who don't know where it is, you really wouldn't be who I was asking for info anyway...

coldwar27 Dec 7th, 2004 03:13 PM

Ah the holiday spirit is alive and well!

obxgirl Dec 7th, 2004 03:16 PM

You might do some research on the web but I think most of the holiday activities are going to be very much like the school, church, town things going on in your community.

If you go, hope you enjoy your stay.

Boy, am I glad I'm not the only one who didn't know where Duck was. :)

Sounds like a sweet deal, steph54!

Although I personally prefer Hatteras I think if you want to spend some quite time on a wonderful stretch of beach, and for free!!!, you cannot go wrong with Duck.

Go here for some further information about activities..or at least as a start...

Be glad that more people DON'T know about the place..just makes it all the more peaceful for those of us who love it so much.

Ooops.sorry..I meant to say QUIET time.

I just spent Thanksgiving in the OBX and had a wonderful time. We had Thanksgiving dinner at a wonderful, but not inexpensive restaurant, Elizabeth's Cafe, which is in Duck. The are known internationally for their wine cellar and have won several awards for it. MOre and more families come to the OBX for the holidays,so you'll have plenty of company.

It's like my Pa always said, "You can take the Christmas out of Duck, but you can't take the duck out of Christmas."

I feel the need to duck and cover from some of the comments.

I spent New Year's weekend in Nags Head a few years ago and it was cold and windy. Very different from summertime (duh). The area wasn't as built up as today, but there were enough things open to give a break from relaxing. However, I was in the Nags Head area and not Duck.

I enjoyed the peace and serenity of the area, but wished I had brought my winter coat. And the beach itself in gale force winds isn't enjoyable (natural sandblasting).
