Christmas in Charleston
My wife and I are planning to visit Charleston in early December. Last time we were there was in August and over 100 degrees. What is the typical weather in December?
Are there any special Xmas activities? Also looking to explore some of the islands with an eye to retirement. I think Kiawah and Hilton are out of our ranhge but all suggestions welcome. Thanks. |
mrchipry, the weather should be low to mid 60's daytime, around 40 at night ... lovely weather for visiting there.

I visited Charleston in April and a 'native' of Charleston said that Christmas time is a great time to visit. He said it was 70 degrees Christmas 2007. He also said the historic homes were decorated for the season.
Call the Visitors Center to verify. |
Its a great time to visit. We go almost every year for New Years and get weather from 60 to as high as 75. It does cool down quite abit late afternoon so if you are in town, have a layer or two available. Houses will be decorated,as will all the historic hotels. Huge toy train display in the lobby of the Charleston Place Hotel.

They have a magical toy store on King Street.

I do believe that Sarah Anne's - the oldest toy store in Charleston - closed earlier this year. It was a favorite stop for my DS. I see there is a toy Soldier shop now on King Street, but I haven't been...

For your information, I have just rented two houses on Kiawah for 8 days over Christmas. Each has 5 bedrooms, right off the beach.
Cost for each was under $2800, which really makes for an economical stay for a large number of people (20 total), including allowing us to cook together, visit in a central location, and enjoy all the special events at Kiawah for the holidays. You might want to check out possible rentals on the island. |
