For a holiday treat at the real deal. Check out the Parker House
They invented the Boston Creme Pie and even CHarles Dickens lived their and performed a reading of a Christmas Carol for the first time
They are America's most Historic Luxury Hotel and right at the foot of Beacon Hill and Boston Common

No idea how the rooms are at the Parker House, but stay far away from the restaurant's food, which is lousy.

I definitely agree with the idea of a walk between the Pops concert and your 7 pm dinner. It will be dark when you get out of the concert and everything will be beautifully illuminated.

I would ask your concierge that morning to sketch out a short walking tour for you that accomodates to a) the weather and b) how everyone in your family is feeling at that time. Our Boston Christmas weather is highly variable, as you probably know. It can be blustery, balmy and everything in between.

When my 21-year old daughter was 11 and thereabouts, she used to perform in Boston Ballet's NUTCRACKER. We would go to the then-Ritz/now-Taj to see the wonderful "Nutcracker Suite" of rooms set up in honor of the Boston Ballet production. There are numerous "Nutcrackers" performed around town but Boston Ballet's is the largest spectacle.

What lovely plans you have!

Thanks Mayra.
We are really excited about it. Iīve personally have been in Boston twice but itīs the fist time for my wife and daughter so I would like to make to them memorable. The weather?? Well ,We are from Venezuela as as you can imagine we arenīt looking for any warm weather at all. So if it is cold ... much better although it may sound a litle weird!!.
We really apreciate very much for all your help and kindness.
Thank you very much.
I you ever plan to come to Venezuela (or South America in general) please feel free to contact me.

Regards,
Ramón

I'm edging in to ask a related question: we live near Fall River and will be coming to Boston for Christmas Day. Does everyone agree we should have Christmas Day (mid-day) dinner at The Taj? Or....? I'd love to hear, but don't mean to sidetrack Ramon. Thanks, all.

1. why top a 2 year old thread?
2. what brings you to boston on Christmas day?
3. I have had to work on Christmas day in Boston and at this point would likely opt for a Chinatown dinner

My bad about the date -- I honestly didn't notice. I got so engrossed in the story of Ramon...

What brings us to Boston? Our oldest daughter can't join us until 12/26, and we will have our "real" Christmas when she arrives. So, in the meantime, husband, younger daughter and self are looking for something pretty and festive for Christmas Day.

Since we've lived many years in Asia, a Chinese dinner would not be my first choice!

If you've got any suggestions (do you have a favorite hotel?) I'd welcome them.

Thanks.

Which restaurants are likely to be open on Christmas Day is going to be a crap shoot. Asian spots are usually your best bets. There are very few Kosher places locally, and with Christmas falling on Saturday this year, that's the Jewish Sabbath -- so no Kosher spots will be open either. One might guess that restaurants attached to hotels are likely to be open, but I wouldn't bet the rent on it.

One of my favorite Boston Hotel dining experiences, and I've done it many times is a slow and casual meal at one of the sofas at the Bristol Lounge Four Seasons. There is just such a casualness mixed with elegance sitting comfortably at a sofa. Not sure what there menu is that day, but I have spent hours sharing their famous burgers, and caesar salad, or champagne and strawberries.. . . or tuna tartar, or their dessert table and tea, or the bar with martini's and roasted nuts. . . . Love the room. Love the sofas.

Thanks for your help and forbearance. The Four Seasons sounds like a great idea. Is the Taj Hotel what once was the Ritz? I think hotel dining is our best option.

jgmc,

OpenTable has a list of some of the restaurants open Christmas Day. When I was thinking of eating out (now I'm cooking in), I noticed that among the hotel restaurants open is Brasserie Jo at the Colonade Hotel.

And, yes, the Taj Hotel is the old Ritz.
