CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR MEN

OK, I know this is not the place to post this, (but I have seen other "UN-Travel" posts here before, & I'm surprised how much I learn, I find it very informative), but, what's a good gift for guys at Christmas? (granted it's only a $25-$30.00 budget), but, this guy is not particularly interested in DVD's or CD's. He doesn't read much fiction, (more factual text book things interest him). I'm not coming up w/much. (yes, always sweatshirts are good, practical). He does not wear fragrance, so, that is definetly OUT. I guess there's always gift cards. Does anyone have a suggestion that's new & fresh? thanks (sorry if we get in trouble for posting on travel site!)

Try the Discovery Channel...Dicsovery.com. Lots of good books ranging from geology to archiology to astronomy to space travel. Some great gadgets too.

CJBROWN -- WHAT'S UP WITH THE SHOUTING????

BeachBoi Dec 6th, 2005 09:30 AM

My Mom often ends up shopping at Bombay Company.I like anything from there and they always have lots of "specials".

CJBROWN Dec 6th, 2005 09:34 AM

thanks, keep the ideas coming. BeachBoi, just curious, what does your Mom find at Bombay company?
And, wliwl, sorry, not shouting, just a lazy typist.

CJB....For your price range, I would guess something maybe for a dresser...change catcher or whatever..I am always throwing stuff on my dresser and nighttable..I like having something for it all to fall into..There are also novelty items for birthday and Christmas, games, small furniture type items...www.bombaycompany.com

HI , CJ. You might want to post also on the Fodors Travel Talk Board called "Other Topics"--(the last one listed if you click on "Talk" ). Great idea from JimM about Discovery--go to their web site, as they classify by $ amount. Or google search if you haven't yet : "mens gifts $25" Bet you'll get ideas. With all the internet sites available, you should find something--or at least, have fun browsing!!!
A lot of work--but what about a photo album with special memories?? Gift cards--useful, but kind of impersonal IMHO--a last resort if this is a "special" someone.
Merry Christmas to you both!

CJBROWN Dec 6th, 2005 09:56 AM

thanks again. I checked out discovery.com, & there are some good ideas, I'll check Bombay, too, hadn't even thought of that for men. (I guess I don't shop there too much either)
I'll check the "talk" site, too.
much appreciated, any more ideas?
thanks

How about a gift card to his favorite restaurant??

Brian_in_Charlotte Dec 6th, 2005 10:43 AM

Wine, scotch, gin, Belgian beer . . . Any would be appreciated at my house.

beachbum Dec 6th, 2005 10:55 AM

A money clip? Or a nice corkscrew?

Kath Dec 6th, 2005 10:58 AM

Try redevenlope.com too. How about a digital tire gage?

samschack Dec 6th, 2005 11:01 AM

Perhaps something from "Sharper Image" or "Restoration Hardware"? Both have interesting things and you can certainly find something a little different in that price range.

How about a good bottle of something to share, with two appropriate glasses (Grand Marnier or other with 2 pony/cordial glasses, or bubbly with 2 flutes?)

MrTraveler Dec 6th, 2005 11:21 AM

How old is this guy?? Clothes is always good for ANY guy as most guys hate to shop. Also, don't worry about gifts being too impersonal, like a gift card, because guys don't make a big deal about stuff like that like women do. Gift cards are great gifts for guys!, especially if it's to a restaurant. Anything related to sports is always good too, if he's into that.

If he is drinking age, buy a basket and fill it with all sorts of imported and microbrewery beers. Gourmet food stores and wine shops sometimes sell them by the bottle.
Or go onto some "cool guy" web sites such as Oakley or Quicksilver for t-shirts, etc.

Here's some ideas: 1. my intellectual type friends all love a book called freakanomics. 2. LL Bean has some cute gifts-swiss pocket mini knife and pen set, water bottle stuff with car supplies (tire guage, emergency vest, stuff like that) 3. in a cold climate-gloves, scarves, hats 4. cocktail shaker and recipe book 5. itunes card if he has an ipod 6. dinner and a movie basket (makings for spagetti dinner and movie rental pass) or movie treats (popcorn, candy) and movie rental pass. 7. Car wash passes for local car wash (a favorite of my DH) 8. movie passes

wliwl Dec 6th, 2005 12:55 PM

How about a Leatherman??? Guys love them. http://www.leatherman.com/products/tools/default.asp

CJBROWN Dec 6th, 2005 02:01 PM

great ideas, thanks.
gift cert to car wash sounds good! (he has new truck)& the digital tire gauge. (i know nothing about cars, so, the gauge was new to me)
(we've done gift cards to restaurants, etc before, & he likes them, but, I was just trying to find something new, & I've found some here. I have to check Leatherman.com, I don't know what that is, thanks.
