Christmas Day in Boston
 

Hello everyone -some helpful suggestions please!

Party of 5 - My Mother and Father (seniors / Irish) my Sister and her 12 yo Daughter (both first time visitors to USA and myself coming to Boston on 24th Dec - Any suggestions for a good place for Christmas Day lunch?

We usually have the family Turkey and Trimmings in UK but are up for any thoughts you knowledgeable folk have

FYI non of us are great drinkers a few glasses of wine with a meal is about it!

To help - Nothing that High Brow - but nice Holiday surroundings! maybe a bit of music who knows! as for cusine! we love most types of foods

Good luck finding something that's open, other than Chinese food.

Wouldn't the hotel restaurants be serving?

Wow. Hrmm... We like to have dinner or tea in the city on Christmas Eve, and have a hard time finding a place that stays open past 6 PM. Christmas Day? I can't think of any restaurant that fits the desired ambience. that would be open. I think your only chance is a hotel restaurant, and likely, yes, the high end ones.

On a positive note - if you are in town by late afternoon or early evening walk from around the Public Garden over towards Beacon Hill. Church bells ringing, usually carolers on Beacon Hill.

The Ritz Carlton (Boston Commons) offers Christmas Day dinner but it is very pricey - $70/adult & $25/child. Where are you staying?

In general, restaurants in Bostona rea are all closed on Christmas Day - and some on Christmas Eve. As mentioned above, Chinese restaurants are notable for being open - we have some Jewish friends who have a family tradition of a large family gathering at a Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day.

Some upscale hotel dining rooms will be open - these will undoubtedly be more pricey - even higher than their usual cost - and usually have limited menus (such as 3-course choice of 3 entrees). Most will be beautifully decorated.

Hope you will be spending more than this day and a half in Boston area - because everything else opens up on 12/26.

Firstly - thank you all for taking the time to reply - It looks like we will be at the shops on Christmas Eve and cooking in our Appt on Christmas Day (which won't be that bad!) as for how long we are in Boston - A glorious 9 Days - we leave on the 1st - I understand that New Years Eve is fun in Boston so we are looking forward to that!

So glad that you'll be in Boston for a good long visit. As Christma is for staying home with family, New Year's Eve is for public gatherings and festvities. Boston's First Night celebration is widely imitated but never surpassed! Be prepared to bundle up, it's traditionally the coldest night of the year.
