Christmas at Disney World
 

I'm planning to take my grandchildren to Disney World between Christmas and New Years. Any comments, good or bad needed.

It will be very crowded.

We were there 2 years ago from Dec. 30, 2000 through Jan 2, 2001 and it was extremely crowded and very cold. The temp dropped down to 30.

The average high for 12/31 in Orlando is 72 degrees and the average low is 51 degrees.

I wouldn't normally go at that time of year but we were attending a special function on New Year's Eve.

The kids will love it regardless just be prepared for long lines and possibly colder than normal weather.

Are you staying on property? I've also heard that the parking lots for those not staying at WDW locations with transportation (driving your own or a rental car) fill up and close.

It is not nearly as crowded since September 2001. We were there last year and never found it that crowded. Some parking lots remained closed.

There is much to see and do. The Christmas trees in each of the resort lobbies is worth a trip. We thought the tree at the Animal Kingdom Lodge was the most interesting. Definitely worth a trip to this harder to reach hotel. The market place restaurant Boma is good for kids.

Last year it was cool and rained a lot which was very unusual. We have been several times for Christmas or Thanksgiving and had never experienced rain like this.

If you have little girls I'd take them to afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian and let them see the lifesize Gingerbread house.

You are going to love it! Since 9/11, Xmas has not been that crowded at all (otherwise I may have avoided it). It's just magical, lots of lights and things to do. New Year's is another story as lots of kids do Pleasure Island and at least the Downtown Disney area is VERY crowded. I've gone almost every year and at least since 9/11 have had a more pleasant time...again, due to less crowds during that time of the year. Enjoy!
