Christkindl Market in Mifflinburg, PA

The Christkindl Market in Mifflinburg (located in central PA) is billed as the Oldest Authentic German Outdoor Christmas Market in the United States, celebrating their 24th year this year. My husband and I decided to visit the market last evening, and had a pleasant time... of course the weather was in our favor - a crisp, perfect winter evening.

The festival runs Thursday through Saturday, and we went for the Market Opening with the arrival of St. Nicholas through the Market on his Horse accompanied by the local school's Renaissance band. There were over 50 craft vendors selling their wares, many of them German oriented, and lots of German food options from over 40 food vendors.

For the children there is a Kinder World, Marionette shows, Hilby, the Skinny German Juggle Boy, the story of Firliputzli, a Christkindl Treasure Hunt, Elf school, Prune People, Dample Dei, a Christkindl Cinema, an outdoor Nativity scene, and many other activities.

For the adults they have Glühwein and German beer... woo hoo!

The Market is set in the historic district of Mifflinburg, and you can visit several of the buildings that have been restored. Overall, it was a very enjoyable time, and I'm sorry that we waited 24 years to visit this wonderful Christmas Market. (Free admission - donations accepted).

Happy Holidays!

Glad you enjoyed the Christkindle Market. Did you stay at a hotel in Lewisburg? There is not much in the way of lodging in Mifflinburg.
During the 1980's I owned and lived in a house on the 400 block of Market Street. I saw this market grow from its' infancy.
If you visit Mifflinburg at another time of the year, be sure to stop by the Mifflnburg Buggy Museum which is on Green Street just west of the Presbyterian church.
Mifflinburg is still known by many people as Buggytown.

Anyone else planning to visit Mifflinburg today?
Next year should be even better for the 25th annual Christkindl Market.

Hi Tom...

We live between Danville & Bloomsburg, about 30 miles east of Mifflinburg, so no need for a hotel - we just drove over to the festival in the evening after work.

Back in the '80's I visited the Buggy Museum with my foster son as an educational outing, but I might have to check it out again, perhaps at Mifflinburg's annual "Buggy Days". The folks of Mifflinburg did such a good job with their winter festival, I'm sure their summer festival will be just as much fun.

If you don't make it to Buggy Days, be sure to visit New Berlin Day on the 4th Saturday in August. http://www.newberlinpa.com/
I enjoyed the New Berlin Day long before Christkindl.
