Chop House Palm Springs Restaurant-Anything Better?

OK, I know the term "better" is very subjective but we will be spending the Memorial Day weekend in PS and have a reservation for the Chop House.

Assume the dress code is not a coat and tie sort of thing...am I incorrect about that?

We enjoy good steaks and the quality of the food is more important than ambience, etc.

We will have a rental car so getting around isn't an issue.

Appreciate anyone's suggestions/feedback about this or other steak-type restaurants in the PS area.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it is necessarily a steak house but my husband and I really enjoyed our meal at the Kaiser Grill. I had a seafood risotto and he had steak and both were fabulous!!

Thanks very much for that recommendation. We have four nights to eat out and the meal at the Chop House will only occupy one of those.

We were in Palm Springs in February. Our very best dinner in the Palm Desert, Palm Springs area was by far at Copley's in Palm Srings. The food, the service and the ambience is excellent. I would suggest making a dinner reservation. Enjoy your trip.

LG Steakhouse is also supposed to be very good. Then there is always Ruth's Chris.

Our very favorite restaurant in Palm Springs is Johannes.

Hey Dukey,
We will be in Palm Desert Memorial Day weekend as well and we love to go to
Le Vallauris..outstanding food..
DH had a Filet with figs in cabernet reduction that he said was to die for.
We also like Consuelo's (steak fajitas) and Mikado's at the Desert Springs Resort for the teppan steak and lobster.
I hear good things about Chop House and maybe head that way if its not a zoo!

We love the Chop House and eat there everytime we are in Palm Springs. We love steak and have frequently had steak but have also tried other items and they have been yummy too.

There are lots of great restaurants, but I will limit this reply to a true steakhouse and suggest Sullivan's in Palm Desert.

I can't compare for you, but enjoyed the filet mignon at Kaiser Grille last week.

I think Chop House and Kaiser Grille have the same owners.

With the greatest of respect, local person, are you implying that the other places are NOT "true" steakhouses (whatever that means)?

All I'm looking for is some straight information.

We have been going to PS for Memorial Weekend for 24 years. Funny...but we seem to always frequent the same old places that are only so-so. (Las Cansuelos (sp?) Kobe etc.)

Last trip we tried Bangkok 5 (off Hwy 111) and it was only ok. Wouldn't go again.

We always do Marie Calendars for Sunday brunch. Mostly b/c we have a group of about 45 people and they can put us in a room...but it is also pretty good as well and not too pricey.

We did try a litte hole in the wall off Hwy 111 near the Pickford theaters...mexican I believe and it was really good. I'll have to rack my brain for the name.

I am anxious to try some of the suggesions you received (Chop House sounds great!) I agree with the suggestions of reservations. We tried to go to Kobe three times and they had been booked for a week ahead of time.

HAVE FUN!!

No, what I meant was in comparison to other places that characterize themselves as steakhouses, like LG's, Ruth's Chris, Morton's, The Falls, etc. These in contrast to places that serve an eclectic menu that includes steak, in some cases quite good.

Thanks again for the further replies.

I suspect there is no way to "know for sure" in the cases of some restaurants.

I've read less than stellar reviews for some of the recommends but I'll try to do a trip report even though it will only be for a four-night stay.
