choosing between New Bern or Wilmington, N.C.

Traveling from Charleston to Richmond, and wanting to stop in the
middle of the way, to rest. Undecided between New Bern or Wilmington, N.C., any suggestions??

I would vote for Wilmington. It has a gorgeous historical area, excellent restaurants, a nice beach very close by.
New Bern has about four blocks of attractive shops, restaurants, etc and Tryon Palace.
If you pick Wilmington have a meal at either Jerry's or PortLand Grille. If you pick New Bern, stop in Bear City Fudge.
Enjoy your visit.

Both are a good distance from I-95. Or are you coming up U.S.17?

Thank you for the dining suggestions.
We booked the Best Western Coastline, in Wilmington.

Jimigso, I think we are coming
up the US 17. I will have to
check with my hubby...
thank you.

US 17 is a very interesting route, well worth taking.

You'll like Route 17 and Wilmington. Stop off in Georgetown to see the riverfront historic district from Revolutionary War times, and then a bit further up, go over to the beach on Pawley's Island for that historic district where the rice planters spent their summers. Have lunch in Murrell's Inlet at one of the really good restaurants there.
From Wilmington you can take I40 over to I95 for a quicker trip north, if you like.
