I hadn't thought about Hairspray - more shows to think about!
Ahh! So many decisions! I'm very lucky to have a mom that isn't embarrassed by the "naughty" stuff in Avenue Q. I figure that if she's willing to sit on stage at Spring Awakening (which she is) and see Rent with me (she took me to the first national tour) then she can handle most anything:) |
I vote for Legally Blonde.
I ran a bus trip to see it and all 57 people were thrilled. i have seen all these shows except "gold radio". I enjoyed ave.Q. but, i don't think i would have wanted to see it with my 22 year old daughter. Mary Poppins was great, but i still liked legally blonde better. GOOD LUCK! |
Though Spring Awakening is about "coming of age" it is as "adult" as anything in town - very much about coming of age SEXUALLY.
Ave Q is totally entertaining. Mary Poppins is kidstuff. re: Radio Golf, here's a piece in today's NY Times about playwright August Wilson. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/20/th...?th&emc=th A very charming musical now in revival is 110 In The Shade - starring multi-Tony winner Audra McDonald, it's the musical telling of The Rainmaker, the play by N. Richard Nash that became the movie starring Katherine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster. Music & Lyrics by Jones and Schmidt, creators of The Fantastiks and I Do! I Do! If your other ideas don't develop, definitely put it on your short list. |
Thank you so much for your thoughts!
I've been following the progress of Spring Awakening for a while. My mom was actually the one who introduced me to it, since it was labeled as the "New Rent." We are both very excited to see it. I really appreciate hearing about Audra McDonald's show!. Ragtime (one of the shows for which she one a Tony) is one of my absolute favorites, and seeing her would be incredible. |
I've seen all the shows on your list except Radio Golf. My favorites of those are Avenue Q and Grey Gardens. If I was making the choice it would be Grey Gardens because it's fairly new and Christine Ebersole will very likely win the Tony.
