Choose a luau for us???

I have a 2 for 1 luau coupon and a choice to make. Drums of the Pacific on Maui or Kauai's Best Luau on (where else?) Kauai. Has anyone been to either of these?? Which one can you recommend??

Tommyd, honestly, I would recommend that you spend the extra bucks for The Old Lahaina Luau, since you'll be on Maui. I don't know if you can get a discount for that now, maybe with the Maui Gold Card (or some such card that's available), or maybe AAA. Those who have been very recently can tell you more about that. IMO, it's better to skip the luau than go to the run-of-the-mill ones. Many luaus can be very disappointing, considering how much they cost, even when you get half-off. JMHO!

I agree with bonniebroad--before attending The Old Lahaina Luau we read positive reviews about it and if I remember correctly Fodors wrote that if you're going to attend a luau this is THE one. We really enjoyed it and the location, adjacent to the beach, is awesome at sunset. :-)

Thanks so much for the advice!! I will certainly look into it. I'd rather not go than waste the time & money!!

The Old Lahaina Luau is presently booked up until the end of July. If you're going after that, you'd best make your reservations now.

I, too, strongly recommend the Old Lahaina Luau. The setting is awesome at sunset and the people that work there are equally wonderful. We had so much fun! Just book as early as possible and think twice before you agree to sitting on the grass right next to the stage. The people who had those seats looked so uncomfortable for most of the night - I think it lasted almost 3 hours! We were feeling so good that we had reserved chair seating!!

Another recommendation for the Old Lahaina Luau! We had the traditional seating (on mats on the grass) and weren't uncomfortable at all. The seats were right next to the stage and we loved being so close to the action.

Another excellent choice on Maui for a luau is the Feast at Lele. It is put on by the Old Lahaina Luau group and a local superstar chef (same guy who owns I'o and Pacific'o. It has very limited seating (right around 100 people) per night and you have your own table (for 2, 3, 5 or whatever size) versus a community table. The show encompasses many of the Polynesian islands and is very true to their customs (versus overly catering to tourist conceptions). We went (managed to grab a cancellation) and it was a fantastic show (although the food is not for everyone - such as little kids or people who don't like seafood). Even my wife and kids loved it (and they are the non-seafood eaters) Check it out.

A word of warning - - - although it is a great show and I highly recommend it, it is probably the most expensive luau at $95 to $100 for adults and $55 for kids).

I have been to the Old Lahaina Luau twice, last time in Feb/04, and it is awesome. Much better than the others I have been to at the hotels. Definetly worth the extra money. But if you have a bad back dont try the grass seats, if you dont, go for it. One of my favorite sunset pictures I have taken in Maui was at the Old Lahaina Luau. And make that reservation ASAP. We wanted to go on my husband's birthday but had to settle for the day before due to my waiting to call a month ahead! Aloha!

Another vote for the Old Lahaina Luau. Although we booked that an entire year ahead..
