From Canada's govt. website:
Visas are not required for U.S. citizens entering Canada from the U.S. You will, however, need:
(1) proof of your U.S. citizenship such as your U.S. passport (For information on obtaining a U.S. passport, check with one of the regional passport agencies located throughout the U.S.) or certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the city, county or state in the U.S. where you were born. If you are a naturalized U.S. citizen and do not have a passport, you should travel with your naturalization certificate. A driver?s license or Social Security card is NOT valid proof of citizenship.
(2) photo identification, such as a current, valid driver?s license."

Hi Cassandra,
I had this big long post on this issue about three months ago and the consenses was that to be certain and safe about identification it is better to just get the darn passport. Even Mexico if you want certain hunting liscenses require it. So if we go, we just feel that it would better be safe than to be sorry.

The passports are not the only reason about not going to Canada. But with all of these great posts, I think we will go and just get the passport for good measure, especially since we are taking our kids.

Vancouver and Whistler sound awesome and that is where my H really wants to go. My OD wanted to go to London this year, so I think that Vancouver will fill her need for foreign travel. Thanks again all.

Another question. WE would probably only go to Whistler for 3 or 4 nights. Would we want a condo for that short of time? Or a resort? Opinions? Thanks again.

Try posting this question on the Canada board. We stayed in a condo a week. It was one of those timeshare exchange deals. For less than a week, I don't know. I think you will have lots of options, including hotels. Condos are nice because you can eat in when you want and often have more space, but for just a few days, they may be hard to come by.
