Child safe Hawaii beaches in late October

Hello! We're looking at going to Hawaii (for the first time) with a group including several young children in mid-late October. We're deciding between Oahu, Maui, or the Big Island and looking at renting a big house on one of these. Our biggest concern is finding close child safe beaches, which I know can be difficult in October. Can anyone recommend a good area for us? Thank you so much!

IMO, the best bet (for combining both) would be the many beaches along the west coast of Maui, for example, the Kamaole Beach Parks area of Kihei. I'd recommend looking into getting two condos in a complex rather than a big house, it will make your search much easier (and more affordable).

and before others say the obvious, even if a beach looks perfectly safe and gentle (like the long, wide Big Beach at Makena), there can be undertow, so keep them close and supervised. That said, Wailea, between Kihei and Makena on Maui, is also a good choice.

I think Sylvia is right in suggesting Maui, especially for first time Hawaii visitors. But the best child friendly beach I've seen on any of those three islands is at Makaiwa Bay, within the Mauna Lani Resort property, on the Big Island. Your best bet there would also be to rent a couple condos in one of the many complexes in the resort.

How large is the group, and what's your nightly lodging budget?

"...there can be undertow, so keep them close and..." and only, only go to lifeguarded beaches.

Lifeguards on beaches is not always easy (like on big island, lifeguard coverage can be spotty).
On Maui, Kamaole Beach Parks and Makena (Big Beach) have lifeguards.
Remember the time of year you will be there (fall and winter have bigger surf).
