Boy emd, the weather sure did change - a far cry from the early report of beautiful weather. Anyway, I look forward to hearing your impressions.

emd-

How was it in the rain? We're planning to go this coming Tuesday (I didn't buy tickets in advance) and it looks like it may rain. I don't know if we should still go if it's raining...

yk: I am just seeing this post. I tried to describe what it was like in the rain in my post above. Definitely it was worth it and we had the place almost to ourselves. Plus the majority of the exhibits are in the Conservatory or just outside of it; you could potentially skip the smaller installations in the Rose and Children's gardens if the weather is really bad (but don't miss the one in the fountain by the cafe and gift shop area). Just take a jacket if it rains, as I was freezing, which was amazing considering it was late August.

Did you go?

Yes, we went, in the rain. We were in NYC for 3 days and I managed to pick the only rainy day to head to the Garden. Like you said, the place was empty - which was nice. We actually went to most of the exhibits, including the Rose Garden and the Nolen Greenhouse.

I am on countdown until next Saturday when I plan to go see this exhibit- rain or shine. Is the consensus that it is a 3.5 hour visit?

Sharkmom, it depends on your pace and interest. I could spend the entire day wandering around the gardens, your might not be as interested.

Certainly give yourself 2 hours, otherwise you are just rushing.

I hope the weather will be nice for your visit! Enjoy.

We were there for about 2 hours. I think you'll need more than 2.5 hours there.

We went on Sunday -- arrived just before opening at 10am and left on the 1:37 train back to Grand Central. I wouldn't have wanted to stay any less than that; another hour would have been nice, as we limited our visit primarily to the Chihuly exhibits (conservatory, rose garden, greenhouse, children's garden).

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING PICTURES, ms go!!

Esp. loved the reflections in the conservatory pond, the pink koi in that one shot, and that incredible one of the boat! Magnifique.

I wish that our day there had been bright and sunny like yours, instead of in the rain. The glass was so much more brilliant in your photos, against the blue sky and rest of the outdoors in sunlight.

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. We really enjoyed the exhibit--we were just fortunate to be there on beautiful, sunny morning and also before it got really crowded. Most of my photos from the couple of days before (Statue of Liberty, etc.) are a bit on the grey side, so I was particularly happy to see the sun.

AuntAnnie--Amsterdam! Stay tuned.

We wee there this past Sunday as well. What a gorgeous day and the gardens and the Chihuly's were magnificent. The rose garden was in full bloom!! My only complaint is that the help at the gates just didn't seem to have a clue as to what they were doing. Lines everywhere, and noone could tell you where to go if you had tickets, or if you needed to buy. We were corporate members, and that really thru them for a loop! But, just after getting thru that nonsense, it was a great day!

We just got home from our weekend in NYC. We went to the Chihuly exhibit on Saturday and were blessed with fabulous weather. The trip there was easy and although there were lots of people enjoying the exhibit, it didn't seem like it was oppressive. I don't think you need to bother with timed entry tickets at this point in the season. There were 4 of us, so one of us bought the $60 membership at the entrance and got the 4 free tickets and walked in. This show is really a must see!
