chicago weather labor day

Any idea what we can expect the weather to be like over labor day in Chicago? I realize it can vary a lot (as it does here in Texas), but I'm not sure wheather to pack pants and jackets or capris and sandals.

Another thing, will it be so crowded that most of the tourist attractions will be packed. I generally don't like going someplace for the first time during a holiday, but we got a really good deal.

Thanks.

I was in Chicago mid-September, it was hot - t-shirt and sunblock type of weather.

The day (or a week) before you leave, go to weather.com (they post a 10-day forecast)

The average low is 61; the average high is 79 for that time of year.

I was in Chicago over Labor Day a few years ago. Extremely hot and muggy day. Late in the day we had a huge thunderstorm. But you're right, the weather could vary greatly, you never know.

Yes, probably hot and humid. I think a lot of people go out of town (I know I usually do), so it shouldn't be too crowded. I can't think of any traditional Labor Day things.

The weather in Chicago is still very summer-like for Labor Day. It's Jazz Fest weekend, come and enjoy some of the best music with terrific city views.

I've lived in the Chicago area for 24 years. I don't remember it ever being cool over Labor Day weekend. Later in the month, yes. But not that early. Most of the suburban schools start the week before Labor Day. So, of course, since most schools aren't air conditioned, we usually seem to have a heat wave in late August/early September! :S-

I live here and it can vary dramatically. I'd check the weather forecast a few days before. But whatever it says, bring just a few items for the opposite weather. The forecast is notoriously wrong, and tourists are often seen shivering in their shorts or sweltering in their pants and long sleeves.
