Chicago tulips
Could anyone narrow down a window of time when magnificant mile is overflowing with beautiful tulips wherever you look? I would love for my to experience Chicago then. Thanks everyone!
|
If I recall correctly, it was through May last year. They are gorgeous, aren't they! I saw them planting the bulbs last fall while sitting in traffic so I know they'll be there.
|
As a resident and tulip planter myself, I am going to say that it will be earlier in May than later. First week is my speculation. May 15-20th is Lilac time and most tulips are gone by then.
|
The tulips start coming up in April and last through May. I saw them in the late 90's.

Your best bet would be from the 5-15th of May, but bloom times can vary up to 10 days in either direction depending on the spring weather.
The landscape designer who does Michigan Avenue is one of the best in the country. You can see more of his work here. http://www.dhoerr.com/pubspace/michigan_ave.cfm So, if you can't make tulip season, come anytime after mid-June. His summer designs are really creative. |
Thank you everyone and patg for the great website, and later June consideration. My only trip was tulip time, and my husband has always wanted to visit Chicago.....so a quick getaway is in order. Maybe a surpise 13 year anniversary getaway.

gyppielou, if you enjoy fields of blooming tulips you should consider going to Ottawa, Canada for Tulip Festival in May
