You can't specify 3 adults using "Name your Own Bid" on Priceline. If you're using the other priceline method that is just like every other online booking agent, you probably can do the "3 adults" thing to be sure to get two beds, but I don't think it's any less expensive than any other site.

DD,

First of all, don't do it if you are scared.

But, I have booked over 100 reservations on priceline and have always been able to get two beds in the room whenever I've requested it.

To get the most out of Priceline you should read up at biddingfortravel.com You will see in the Chicago listings that the Hyatt is being "won" quite often at $60 a night. You'll need to bid Millenium Park (MP zone) 4* and, at $60 you are VERY likely to get a room at the Hyatt. Once you get the room, call the hotel and request two beds. Joining the Hyatt Passport club on-line is also a good way to get the best treatment.

The Milwaukee zone for the Hyatt is downtown, I believe, and $40-45 a night usually wins it. It is very well located for before and after a game at Miller Park.

Again, at these rates you could always book a second room if you decide to spread out. Plus, breaking up the trip with a night in Milwaukee would be safer (and less stressful, I'd think).

Have a great trip,

Kevin

UPDATE--We have booked our trip, and are staying at the Hotel 71. Good? Hope it is convenient to rail/getting around. Still undecided on if we will stay in Milwaukee overnight, or just drive up and back after our game. Looking forward to a great trip. Thanks all for all the tips.

Definitely stay in or around Milwaukee after the game. There is about 20+ miles of heavy duty road construction both in Illinois and WI that often causes mile long back ups especially at night when the road work intensifies and additional lanes are closed.

From/to airport take the Blue Line train to Clark/Lake station. Hotel 71 is about a 5 minute walk from the station.

For Milwaukee I would suggest the following.

Rent a car for 24 hours. Keep the room at the Hotel 71 but reserve a room somewhere in Milwaukee for 1 night. The best option would be downtown. Leave most of your luggage in Chicago, just take an overnight kit and head out to Milwaukee around 10am. Morning traffic should be gone and you should be able to pretty much fly out of Chicago. Get to Kenosha, Wisconsin. It's a small lakefront town. Stop for breakfast/brunch and perhaps enjoy the little town's lakefront for an hour or so. Continue on to Milwaukee, check in at your hotel. Try to find street parking and perhaps you may get lucky. If not then look for public parking lots around downtown, usually a much cheaper option then what any hotel will charge. Leave the car. Enjoy downtown Milwaukee. There are some interesting things to do there, and all within walking distances or maybe a bus ride.

Before the game catch the public bus to the park. They run right from downtown to the park. After the game they will be waiting for the fans and you'll be back in downtown area in no time. Stay in the hotel overnight and depart around 8am. Barring any unusal circumstances you should be back in downtown Chicago around 9:30am. Return the car and enjoy the rest of your stay in Chicago.

There are 3 or 7 day CTA passes. The 3 day one is ~$14 and the 7 day is around $23. You will be able to get just about anywhere within the city using the CTA option. In fact on game days, it's the ONLY way to go unless you know your way around side streets as traffic will be terrible.

Single rides on CTA are ~$2.25 so the pass makes more sense if you are planning on using public transportation throughout your Chicago stay.

Have fun in one of the most exciting and beautiful US cities.

CTA also offers 1 day pass good for 24 hours from the first time you use it, so perhaps you can just get a day or 2 whenever you decide to use CTA for few trips. Day pass is ~$5.75.

I say save all the hassle of travel between Chicago/Milwaukee. Take Greyhound bus. I've done it before and it's great. No worries. :) They have late-night and early-morning buses, too.

Nothing against Greyhound on this route. In fact, I had to take it once when I needed to bring a boat back from the Milwaukee harbor to our dock at Diversey Harbor. I agree, it's not a bad choice, but,

It will be ~$60 R/T for 3 people. Car can be had for ~$30-40 per day including taxes. Gas another $20-30. At the end the cost is the same but with a car you have the freedom to stop along the way if you find something intetresting, you don't have to depend on their schedule.

For 1 or even 2, the bus option is okay, but once you have 3-4 people, then the car option is no more expensive than the bus, but it's quicker and no hassles of catching taxis to/from the stations on both ends, convenient storage for your stuff and freedom to do what you want.

UPDATE--We had a GREAT trip. I loved Chicago! We had a nice stay at the Hotel 71. Location was great-close to alot of the attractions/river/food, etc... We enjoyed Wrigley, US Cellular and even rented a car and took in a game at Miller Park. Will probably return with my wife, as this was a trip with my son and my brother. Enjoyed Giordano's, Harry Cary's, Billy Goat Tavern(a dump), and also Dicks Last Resort. Had fun and can't wait to go back. Much cooler than my Texas. :^)

Thanks again.

Dugout- I'm in TX now, but was Chicago-born and raised. I'm so glad you had a wonderful time. And I knew you'd LOVE Chicago! It is a great city, and highly underrated by those who've never been. :) Your wife will find it wonderful, too. Especially if she is a shopper! :)hahaha

Glad you had a great trip. Which stadium did you like the most out of the 3?

Dugout_Diamonds Aug 15th, 2009 09:02 PM

Sorry for not checking back sooner. Probably liked Miller Park the best, but can't beat the history/nostalgia of Wrigley. I definitely liked the area around Wrigley, with the shops, Harry Carey's(enjoyed a good lunch), etc... But, if only talking ballpark, I have to say Miller Park, because the inside atmosphere was great, with lots of concession areas, and the concourse was wide enough to walk around easily. I hope you guys that live in that part of the world realize how well you have it, temperature wise. I would go to tons more game here in Texas if the gametime temperature was in the 70's or even 80's. Sure was nice.
