chicago train question
We are contemplating taking the train to Chicago from Detroit, and then taking the commuter train out to the northshore suburbs to meet up with family. I understand that those trains leave from a different place (Oglivie Transportation Center?). Is there a shuttle service or anything like that between the two stations? How long (time/distance) is it from one to the other? or should we just take a cab. We'll have weekend luggage, and it will be mid November.
Thanks for your thoughts. |
I can't help you on the Chicago end, but I just wanted to let you know about Megabus, which goes directly between Chicago and Detroit or Ann Arbor with no stops. It is very cheap.
http://www.megabus.com/us/ Just another option! |
If your train from Detroit comes into Union Station, it would be a very easy walk (just a couple minutes/a block or two) to Ogilvie Station, and any working at the station could easily direct you (Ogilvie is Madison and Canal, and Union Station is just a block or so south, I believe.)It's a very easy, doable connection, even if it's snowy or rainy as long as you can just pull your suitcase or carry it for 5-10 minutes).
Both stations have places to grab food/drink before making the connection. Ogilvie has a large food court and stores. (You didn't ask, but it sounds like you may have a long-ish day ahead of you.) Good luck, and enjoy Chicago! melissa |
Which suburb are you going to? Some, such as Glenview, Deerfield, etc., are served by commuter trains that also leave from Union station. I know those suburbs are not strictly the North Shore, but some people expand the definition.

Thanks Melissa and thanks Kellie- I hate busses, but good info for my Ann Arbor son.
Marilyn- we're going to Glencoe if that makes a difference. I was told it would be Ogilvie |
Yes, that's Ogilvie, the North line, and as the OPs have said, it is very close to Union Station, just down Canal Street.

Ugg, I hate buses too. That is why I like the idea that this one doesn't stop. I wouldn't even be forced to use the bathroom. I could just hold it the whole way!
