Chicago to Raleigh, NC

I am driving from Chicago to Raleigh, NC and looking for recommendations for the best route. Google Maps sends me through Indianapolis, Ohio and West Virginia on Highway 35. I would like to get halfway before staying overnight. Any thoughts, experiences, or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

oops! That California tag was an accident. Pardon the mistake.

When I was dating a guy who loved in Ohio we used to meet at Hawks Nest State Park in West Virginia. It would be a slight detour off 64, and a bit over half way.

Well, that was a Freudian slip! Lived, not loved.

I believe you must mean Route 35 in Ohio from Dayton to WVA and that is a great road--not an interstate, not crowded, 4 lane, good speed limit.
I assume the rest of your trip is on the appropriate interstates.
I would think you could easily get to around Bluefield, WVA or Wytheville VA. (just a little corner there). Plenty of motels along the interstate. Wytheville is a sort of interesting old town in its center.
You could go on to Mt. Airy and have a Mayberry moment.

Oh, and be prepared for HUGE truck traffic from Indianapolis to Dayton on I70. It moves, but it is congested.
