We stayed at the Fryemont Inn in Bryson City once. There were rocking chairs on the porch and no TV in the rooms, and the food was WONDERFUL!

http://lulusonmain.com/, http://restaurant553.com/ Those are both in Sylva. Can't think of anything in Bryson City. Although I can't speak to the food (although I'm sure I've eaten there) The Fryemont Inn is nice.

Hi 3Z -

I still have fond memories of my road trip with my parents when I was 13. The Smokey Mountains are beautiful, and I suggest a visit to Graceland. It's quite something to see.

It is done. After exhaustive research (the blessing & curse of the Internet) I settled on a cabin adjacent to a stream/creek at Lands Creek Cabins http://www.landscreek.com. Fryemont looked good except they do not accomodate kids in cottages (only accomodations w/AC). Lands Creek had outstanding Tripadvisor reviews. Owner was very accomodating, flexible w/pricing as we will be staying 4-5 nights, and even gave me his cell phone number. I learned that there is nice community pool close by (if we need it) and that the cabins are 3 miles from Bryson City restaurants, etc. 'Paris2, thanks for the restaurant suggestions in Sylva, too. They may well come in handy. Trip report to follow!

Lots of whitewater rafting options nearby -

They may enjoy the theme events on the railroad - http://www.gsmr.com/

About an hour away is the famous Dillard House restaurant -

The Dillard House stables also offer some good trail riding, including the River ride. The horses will walk in the river for a while - lots of fun

If you go to Highlands, NC, wander the shops and stop for ice cream at Kilwin's http://www.kilwins.com/stores/displa...lands&state=NC

Here are our favorites for restaurants in Sylva (we often meet there for "business" meetings)

My favorite summer activity is time on a mountain lake. There may be other options closer to your cabin, but here's one rental option in N GA - http://www.lakeburtonboatrental.com/

Go see the bears in Cherokee - http://www.cherokeezoo.com/

And, here are some other ideas from a Cherokee NC website -
