Chicago Style Pizza
 
What are the best places for a good Chicago Pizza?<BR>Last time I was there I missed it, I'm not planning to miss it this time.<BR>Thanks

Even though it's the answer you'd most expect, the place is Pizzeria Uno. They invented the Chicago style pizza, why wouldn't you go there? They had to open another place a couple of years ago because they were so crowded called Pizzeria Due. It's right down the street and some say the pizza is better there.<BR><BR>When I go places, I like to go as authentic and original as possible. SOme will say that there is better Chicago style elesewhere, but go with the original at Uno.<BR><BR>Chris

While in Chicago last month for business I had delivery from Giordano's. YUM! One small pizza fed me for 3 days! It was thick and stuffed with great sauce and toppings. And it wasn't expensive at all. I think they got voted #4 on City Search best Chicago pizza. Others in town told me Pizza Uno and Pizza Due were really good also.

I may be a little dumb, but what is Chicago style pizza? Is is made a special way to call it this?

A regular pizza is "flat". Imagine making a pizza like a apple or peach pie. With high sides of crust in a deep dish and filed with goodies like you'd normally find on a pizza. There's more stuff and less crust.

As a woman who spent 25 years of her life in Chicago, I must put in my $0.02.<BR><BR>Although Uno and Due are the original, I would advise against going there. They are small and crowded and busy, which in my last few times there, led to an undercooked, sloppy mess of a pizza.<BR><BR>I MUCH prefer Giordano's or Bacino's. Gino's East is good for the atmosphere, but I haven't been there since they moved.<BR><BR>Another place that's good, but I think they are more carry-out and delivery oriented is Eduardo's. <BR><BR>But, whatever place you choose, there is nothing like it! Now I live in LA and pray that someone will figure out how to make it out here....<BR><BR>Enjoy!

John, a lot of people prefer Lou Malnati's - it has a crust made with cornmeal that is really different and good. I also love Giordano's - the spices are more my style.<BR><BR>Pizzeria Uno and Due's have both been around a long time and have a very popular following. They are a little runnier and cheesier than the others. You'll also get votes for Nancy's, Bacino's and a half-dozen other restaurants. Why not make a research project out of this and eat at a different pizza place every night you're here? ;-)

I personally think Uno's and Due's (the same owner) are okay but have gotten too commercialized and not so traditionally chicagoan. I vote for Gino's East or my personal favorite Lou Malnati's. <BR><BR>For someone who asked what Chicago pizza was, my best description would be a VERY thick crust. Usually this is a butter crust which is yellow and has a little bit of a different flavor. The pizza is also "upside down" to some. It is crust then cheese laid direct on the crust and the sauce is dribbled over the top. When you look at a chicago style pizza it is red and looks like a pie with spagetti sauce on top. You don't find out till you bite in that the cheese is in the center and man is there a lot of it.<BR><BR>Hmmm. Now I'm going to have to order out tonight because my mouth is watering from just talking about this.

I read once that the reason the pizza is soooo good in Chicago, is the water! Don't know how true this is - just thought I'd share this tidbit.

So devoted to Chicago pizza that I can tell you Uno's has started to franchise and there are some in northern CA. Not the same though, sigh..... I think it's Lou Malnotti's who ships it overnight frozen if you're really desperate, Deb. Gino's East was always my favorite, and it was just down the street back then---I'm drooling.

Deb's right on target on this topic.....Giordano's and Bacino's are tops.<BR>Uno and Due are bland for my palate, undercooked and lack panache.<BR>I LOOOOVVVEE pizza and Chicago is pizza heaven!!

There was a Pizzeria Uno or two here in So Cal, but I think they've both closed. I know at least one of them has, I'll have to check on the other.<BR><BR>Literally the first thing I did when I arrived at my mother's house for Christmas this past year (after fighting the traffic from Midway) was order some pizza from Giordano's! It was so good and hot and cheesy!<BR><BR>Now they sell them online?!?!<BR><BR>DON'T TEMPT ME!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! <BR><BR>There goes my diet...

Please do not confuse the national CHAIN Pizzeria Uno with the Pizzeria Uno pizza in Chicago. The pizza recipes are different.<BR>(Though I'm not a big fan of either, the chain is MUCH WORSE!).
