Chicago pizza near soldier field

I will be flying in with my 10 year old son for a quick weekend Bon Jovi concert. I hope to do as little driving as possible. We arrive at O'here and are staying at the congress plaza hotel. My son is obsessed (ok we are obsessed) with trying chicago style pizza and hot dogs..Any help would be appreciated.

There are a number of deep dish Pizzareias in downtown Chicago and they are all good. the list includes:
Pizzera Uno and Due's
Lou Malnatis (my fav)
Ginos East
Giordanos
Just ask the concierge for directions. Can't help too much with hot dogs but they shouldn't be hard to find. Enjoy your trip.

Hopefully you're not renting a car. Not only is it completely unneccesary, but it will really get in the way of a quick weekend. Check out www.transitchicago.com for info. The Blue Line runs out to O'Hare. Skip Gino's but any of the others would be a good choice. As for hot dogs, there really aren't hot dog places downtown like there are in the neighborhoods, but Portillo's does have a River North location at 100 W. Ontario. You may also want to go back for their beef sandwich. Great food, fun atmosphere.

There really isn't anything within walking distance of Soldier Field, at least not within several blocks. It's kind of on the far edge of downtown, a bit of walk from the Loop, which is the closest neighborhood, and of course there are no shortage of restaurants there. Here's a link to a great map of downtown. Soldier Field is in the far lower right corner, almost off the map.

Kids may love Ed Debevics, but if you actually like food, then you won't.

And I don't think they service pizza (worth eating that is).

That's true about the pizza but the OP's follow up question was for other kid friendly restaurants.

Sure you can - safest way is probably using the pedestrian underpass to the Field Museum, then continuing south. I would estimate that it's a mile and a half walk.

Lennon,

Since there aren't many options convenient to your hotel, I would suggest riding the bus. Lots of tourists do this -- it's easy, convenient and CHEAP! The Congress Plaza is close to S. Michigan Ave. You can catch a bus -- either the 151 northbound or the 146 (inner Mich. Ave.) northbound on Michigan Ave any time of day or night -- and ride it to the North Mich. Ave area, where there a quite a few more options for food, etc. I recommend the food court at Water Tower Place (mall) -- lots of interesting, inexpensive options. There's also a grill-type restaurant at Water Tower Place - Mighty Nice Grill - that serves burgers and other kid-friendly fare. Westfield Mall (700 N. Mich. Ave) also has a good food court, including a hot dog place called "Relish" that serves Chicago-style dogs.

Giordano's Pizza at 730 N. Rush is great and has an atmosphere your son would like. Take the #151 or #146 bus northbound and get off at Superior St. Walk a block west to Rush St - it's right on the corner.

Fares are 1.75 (need exact change, bills accepted.) Or you can get a transit visitors pass at the CTA station at O'Hare, or at the Osco Drug store at Jackson and Clark. I think the Chicago Cultural center sells them too.

Hope this helps! Good luck - have fun!

Oops. My mistake. I did a mapquest and the distance is 1.2 miles. Cheers. Larry

Get the transit pass, or at least a fare card from the vending machine. Not only is it more convenient, it's much cheaper. Cash fares are now $2.00 and you don't get a transfer. With any kind of fare card, it's still $1.75 and you can transfer for 25 cents. Just ask one of the attendants for details at the O'Hare station.
