Chicago - Picnic Preparation

Thanks for all the great advice on my last post! I appreciate everyone's help, and I'm here to get advice once again. Tuesday, Aug. 26th of our trip we've decided to go to Grant Park to watch Grease. We are considering a picnic of sorts for the movie. We need suggestions on where we can get something prepackage or food that can withstand whatever weather may come (We won't have a cooler). We are staying at The Whitehall Hotel near John Hancock Tower so something close to there like a market or deli would be great. We also plan on heading to the beach one day when were there, so having a grocer/deli near the hotel would be more benificial than hitting a stop somewhere around Grant Park. If there's info you need I haven't posted here you may be able to find it in my older ones, if not let me know.

Hi! You will have a great time! A couple of options for you. Fox and Obel has amazing options for a picnic...a couple other favorites are Charlie Trotters to go and Artopolis in Greektown. I've had them all and have NEVER been disappointed. You can google the names and they all have websites.

Have a wonderful evening!

Fox and Obel is at 401 E Illinois, near Navy Pier. It would be a couple extra blocks east on your way to Grant Park. There's also a Jewel supermarket at State and Ohio that has a deli counter and bakery.

There is a very nice deli just a block or so from your hotel. Ask at the desk. They will know.

There's a great new upscale deli/sandwich shop called Pastoral that'd be on your way to Grant Park.

Just checked out Fox and Obel's site, and it sounds pretty amazing. I've seen Pastoral mentioned on here a few times maybe will do both. One for the beach, the other for the movie in Grant Park.

The closest grocery store to you will be Potash Bros. at 875 N. State. Treasure Island at 75 W. Elm is also pretty close. There is also a Trader Joe's at Wabash and Ontario.

Goddess and Grocer (25 E. Delaware) has great deli sandwiches, prepared salads, wine, etc.

Forgot to add the L'Appetito, at the base of the Hancock building, has great sandwiches and deli stuff, too.

Thanks a million Supercat, it looks like goddess and grocer will at least work out for our day at the beach, and will possibly be worth it on the movie/picnic night too! So glad I signed back in to see this. I also like the fact that you can place an order online, this will be so handy when we are there...I may order a few days before we leave. Excellent post! :D

I believe we've decided to do L'Appetito for lunch on Monday when we arrive, and may wind up at the Signature Room for drinks after. We've got plenty of time before we can actually check in to our room on Monday.
