Chicago - parcel receiving service?

I'll be traveling to Chicago and would like to ship a couple of parcels there, but I don't yet have a destination address. Does anyone know of a centrally located service to where I can have them shipped? Thanks.

Check for UPS store near where you'll be staying.

I wasn't aware UPS did that, will check, thanks!

The "UPS Store" franchise used to be known as Mail Boxes Etc. It's not just a shipping service. You can rent a receiving mailbox. I don't know if they receive packages for ramdom people.

Another option is to ship it to yourself care of the local post office. The USPS will hold a package for you. I forget what that service is called.

FedEx has a service called "Hold at location" where they will hold both ground and home delivery at designated location. You may want to get a fedex shipping account, print your labels on line. FedEx can be stupidly cheap for heavier parcels to metro locations. Call them to ask -- I've never used the hold option myself.

If you are staying in a hotel, you can also have the package shipped there. But don't do it unless you have a reservation. Hotels typically hold packages for arriving guests, but they often charge a fee.

I've shipped to myself via USPS. Check with you PO for details but you send it to General Delivery to hold for your pick-up. I picked really small towns on the map and had no problems - but it's been a while. Ask your local postmaster.

This is all great information that will come in very handy in the future. Thanks!

Luckily I just found out that a friend who lives there will be available to receive my parcels.
