We're planning a trip for late March around Easter to either one of these places- Chicago or Boston. We live in New Jersey, and expect the weather to be pretty similar to what it is here in either destination. Does anyone have any knowledge of either destination's late March weather? Would either place be enjoyable to visit in late March? Thanks.

Both places should be enjoyable in late March, even if the weather is bad. They're both great cities to visit any time!

I'd expect similar weather averages between the two, but you can look at both on www.weather.com and www.wunderground.com to see historically what has happened. That won't tell you what this year will be like, though. That's anyone's guess!

You'll have fun either way though.

There is about 2 1/2 - 3 feet of snow on the ground right now here in Boston. Based on the long range forecast, it probably won't be gone by Easter. If I was traveling in March, I would go South, not East.

Yesterday in Boston I was still shoveling out my driveway, throwing snow into piles higher than my head. Temperatures have been 10 degrees below normal for weeks. It's not going to be gone for Easter.

OTOH, my daughter is home for spring break with a couple of friends and they've been having a fine time; there are plenty of weather-independent things to do in either city, as jim pointed out.

Here is Chicago it was 10 degrees this morning. Just a few spots of snow however.

Predicting weather here for the end of March is virtually impossible. I will go out on a limb and say that it will NOT be anywhere near 70 however. More likely to be sleeting.

Chicago in March varies from -10 to 70 with absolutely no way to predict. We aren't supposed to get snow at any time in the near future. I would think between these two cities, the weather isn't going to be much different if Boston's snow melts by the time of your planned visit.

I'm sure the weather will be awful here in Chicago, but come anyway! Take advantage of the musuems, shopping, restaurants, etc... and not feel guilty about being inside. You could spend an entire day in the Art Institute alone!

One of my favorite trips was to Paris where it was cold and rainy the entire time (in March), but we did all the inside activities...now we will go back when the weather is better and do the parks, cafes, etc.

You must promise, however, you will come back to Chicago in the early fall, when the weather is perfect, and enjoy our outdoor activities...go out on Lake Michigan, enjoy the Lincoln Park Zoo, attend a Cubs game, etc...

As a former resident of both Chicago and Boston, I must recommend waiting until summer to visit Chicago. The city literally comes alive when the weather gets warm, and I'm pretty sure folks will still be hiding during that time of the winter. I've lived all over, and I've never felt such a great summer vibe - it's up there with NYC during Christmas time (well, for tourists at least, NYers could probably do without the rush

Agree with all. Predicting the weather then is impossible. Here in Chi we once had a paralyzing snow storm April 1st. No fooling. It took me 6 hrs. to go 4 miles!

They say spring is 1 1/2 weeks, but this morning didn't feel like it! Although . . . as I walked the husky along the Charles River this morning, I did see someone jogging by in shorts.

Anyhow, come to Boston!!!! Great City, great restaurants, tons to do within downtown for kids/adults. Easy walking City!

Even if it's a bit cold, you can always tuck in somewhere and have fun.
