i, you posted a question on another thread why nobody replied to this one.
I'll go to Chicago in September. First of all, I checked "destinations" on Fodor's, Frommer's and other websites. Second, I went to the library (or people go to a bookstore) and got some travel books. Third, I asked a relative who is a member of AAA to get me a book and a map of Chicago. Forth, I picked out a few hotels and asked if they are located in good areas after checking each one on TripAdvisor. Fifth, I typed "chicago" in the search window of Fodor's and got plenty ideas. Sixth, I ran a couple of sightseeing places by Fodorites. And I will come back with more questions. The bottom line: nobody will do your homework for you. Roll up your sleeves and start research. |
Sorry, but nothing beats a word of mouth recommendation and it seems that this sight is all about that! If you onthe other hand are most interested in putting out fires in the oven and prefer to find your travel infor out of books rather than personal experience then im confused. Mr. Fodor should you re name your sight????

Oh by the way I didi check the Chicago City Website but they do not have any events laid out for that far in advance....
|
There is so much to see and do in Chicago, so many great restaurants.
If you can tell be more specific on what your interest and likes are, you'll get more responses. Also, do a search on Chicago right here on TALK...there are lots and lots of posts from people with great suggestions on Chicago. |
King Tut exhibit at the Field Museum
Wicked at the Oriental will be running still in October |

hmmm, I think Faina meant for you to do a search on Chicago on this site, just as isabella just mentioned. There's a ton of word-of-mouth recommendations on this site (for every destination) that have been done over & over for general "what do you recommend I see, do and eat?" questions. Try a really specific question, and you'll get some really good answers!
OK so here's my 2 cents on this question. Last time I was there I went to Osteria via Stato with makai1 and it was delish. After dinner we went to Buddy Guy's for some down-home blues (love the Cashbox Kings!). I also took in the Weiner's Circle (talk about local flavor) and Uncommon Ground. |
Faina, I agree with what you said.
But maybe ire's new here...so we'll try to be nice. ;) I hate referring posters to other threads for info...but 1) NatalieM's thread : First Time in Chicago is quite helpful. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34822715 2) Thread about favourite Chicago restaurants. Helpful info starts at TxTravelPro's post. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34821790 3)lrdavs01 thread about her short chicago trip. Has Has restaurant recs, things to do etc. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34823573 4) Long Weekend in Chicago thread. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34815168 The list could go on and on. Just do a search ire and you'll see that this very question has been asked to death. BTW: Being snippy won't get more answers either. [-X Hope you all have a wonderful trip. I absolutely adore Chicago and can't wait to get back. |
My tip is to book your hotel room ASAP. Do not delay - that weekend sells out well in advance. The Silversmith has a good location and is not too expensive.
|
sorry I am new and I havent discovered any ins and outs of this sight like you old pros and I hope you didnt take it as being snippy as I did say haha to let you all know I was being light. I totally appreciate all the great suggestions and I cant wait to go
|
I missed the ha ha but welcome to Chicago...you are going to have a problem with accomodations...there have been inquiries on that weekend on this board as well. So in addition to seaching Chicago, search Chicago Marathon.
Try metromix.com for all kinds of reviews and things to do. Good luck. |
