Chicago- Midway Airport Info

I'm flying into Chicago next month for business and haven't a clue as to the best way to get from Midway Airport to Downtown.
Any recommendations on the best method of transportation between Midway and Downtown? How far out is Midway, and how much do most options cost? Any response is appreciated.

The Orange CTA line is fast and quick and will take you to the Loop in 20-25mins.I think It's $1.50 one way.Check the CTA website,I think it's CTAonline.com...Make SURE you have exact change!

jtankers,

Here is the website for the CTA

http://www.transitchicago.com/

I agree with Randyforgt, the Orange Line would be the best way to go. I believe the fare is now $1.80.

The website provided has all of the information you will need, believe me.

Orange Line all the way...you can take it straight from Midway downtown and in rush hour get there in about 20 minutes.

I also agree with the Orange line recommendation but would like to add that the fare is 1.50 and not 1.80 stated by curious.

I guess the fare depends on exactly where you are going. From O'Hare to where I was going downtown (Chestnut and Rush), the CTA "Trip Planner" shows $1.80. For other sites not quite as far, it is $1.50. Maybe it goes up crossing the river.

Plug in your trip on the Trip Planner on the website given earlier, and you will be right on.

No Curious, the base fare is always 1.50 no matter where you get on or off. The 1.80 you were quoted must have included a transfer to a bus.

The fare schedule is 1.50 base, 30 cents transfer within 2 hours, free 2nd transfer within 2 hours.

Tansfers between transit lines are always free if you get off at a transfer station.

My $1.80 price included a transfer. You are correct!

Take a cab! About 15 minutes (depending on traffic) and costs about $20.
They now have monitors around the baggage area that tell you the current travel times between the airport and downtown. Last night it was 10 minutes (vs. 30 on the train.). If you are there on business, I assume you can expense the ride!

Thanks for all the replies- you've helped ease my "scary new city" fears!
