Chicago lunch before Lion King

Any comments on Emil's Bar & Grill, Monday's or Lloyd's? All three are supposedly 1/4 mile or less to the Cadillac Palace Theater + have outdoor dining.

My husband gives Lloyd's an A- or B+ for lunch, and says you should like it.

I have only been to Monday's and it is nothing special. Not sure about the others. How about Petterino's or Trattoria No. 10? Both are good.

Kristi Aug 25th, 2003 10:42 AM

Never heard of Emil's, I agree that Monday's is nothing special and if they have outside dining I can't imagine where they would put it.

Petterino's does have outside dining and is within 4-5 blocks of the theater on Randolph (same street as the theater). You can see their menu at:

http://www.leye.com/restaurants/menus/petterino.htm

Also on Randolph is Giordano's for pizza/pasta, not sure about outside dining though.

Forget Mondays, it's nothing more than a greasy spoon. Lloyds is good not spectacular, but good. Petterinos is probably closest and good. I'm not familiar with Emils. Hotel Burnham's restaurant also is supposed to be really good with outside dining and a 5 minute walk tops. (It's at State one block south of Randolph.)

A big thanks to all of you for your suggestions!!

Atwood Cafe on State Street is a fun lunch rest.

I work in this area.

Our favorite spots for outdoor dining are Regimental Grill, Blackie's and River's (at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange).

These are all within walking distance.

Giordano's is very good and right there, but has no outdoor dining.

I would second Atwood (which is the Hotel Burnham's restaurant) and Trattoria No. 10. Both are excellent and close. Trattoria No. 10 is right around the corner from the Cadillac and that is where we ate before seeing the Lion King. 312 is right next door to the theater.

swalter518 Aug 27th, 2003 09:22 AM

The Atwood was what I was trying to think of but couldn't remember the name(in the hotel burnham). THanks for refreshing my memory, I only walk by the place at least once a week!

Is there another Blackie's besides the one on Grand Avenue? The location I know of isn't very close to the Cadillac Palace.

alex Aug 27th, 2003 01:55 PM

Yes, there is a Boston Blackie's over at the corner of Canal and Monroe. It is right across the street from Regimental and across the river from Rivers like jennyr said. That would be a pretty far walk to the Cadillac.

Thanks to all of you! We ended up at Boston Blackie's and thoroughly enjoyed the bleu cheese burger, corned beef sandwich, garbage salad + wine, all at great prices + wonderful service.
