Chicago: Is this reasonable?
 

Is it reasonable to get from O'Hare, check into Hyatt Regency and to Second City in 3 hours? Our flight gets in at 7:55 pm on Friday, January 3rd and the show at Second City starts at 11 pm. Also, if reasonable, what would be the best mode of transportation? THANKS!

Cutting it close with potential weather delays. Cab or better yet Limo would be the way I would go.

IF your flight is ontime and you don't have any checked luggage, yes, it's doable.<BR><BR>I would take the El to downtown, walk to the Hyatt, and cab to Second City. The El will take about 45 minutes to an hour -- a cab to Second City, 15 minutes.<BR><BR>HTH,<BR>Racy

Yes, that's not unreasonable when you consider that it's 8 p.m. on a Friday night and the traffic shouldn't be too bad compared with, say, 8 in the morning! The El is efficient and cost-effective, but a cab will definitely get you where you need to go, too. As Dan says, weather would be the wildcard if it comes into play. If the roads would happen to be slick, I'd especially opt for the El. It's VERY convenient from O'Hare.

md<BR><BR>If you are running late just drop your bags with the Bell Stand and check-in after the show. That will save you quite a bit of time.<BR><BR>The train is definately predictable for time but the cars are pretty shabby. If GWB wants to do something to help his re-election chances in Illinois he should find some money for the RTA to replace all the rolling stock with 20th century cars (and, yes, I do know that we are now in the 21st century so sic). A cab can take anywhere from 2 hours to 25 minutes but on Friday at 8:30pm (about when you will actually get to the taxi rank) I'd guess it will be much closer to 25 minutes and I'd forgo the train.<BR><BR>Enjoy

Definitely cab it in from O'Hare. As others have said, it will take about 25 minutes door-to-door. The problem with the CTA train is that it doesn't stop close to the Hyatt - it's about a 5-6 block walk. And nothing is worse than poking along on the el, making every stop, when you are presed for time.<BR><BR>You should be at the Hyatt by nine, in plenty of time to check in and cab over to Second City, which is about fifteen minutes away. You ought to call in advance and reserve/purchase your tickets.

OK, planning to take a cab, but if bad weather, what stop do use for the El that is closest to the Hyatt Regency? THANKS!

Clark/Lake Street is the closest exit. Walk one block north to Wacker (at the river), turn right, walk 4-5 blocks to hotel.

If you have much luggage, or you are not familiar with Chicago, I'd opt for a cab from the el stop to the hotel. <BR><BR>And...I'd take the el. Once you are in a cab and all of a sudden in a traffic snarl going nowhere...you are stuck. On the el, you KNOW - (at least with more certainty than in a cab) - that you are going to get downtown in X number of minutes.
