Chicago Hotels
looking for suggestions for mid-range priced hotel in the Chicago Loop area - traveling with my wife and 10 year old daughter, so something clean and near the river would be nice (previously stayed at the River Hotel, whicht fit the bill, but their administrative policies were disappointing, so not interested in a return visit there)

When? As Chicago is a big convention destination, rates run all over the board during large events. For example, the Chicago Marathon is the weekend of October 12-13 and you'd be lucky to find anything in The Loop under $250 per night.
Also, what do you consider mid-price?

I stayed at the Hotel Monaco last year and it was a good choice. Great location for us. But yes, more information about the dates and your exact budget would be helpful - mid-priced to me is expensive or cheap to someone else!
I've had great luck with Hotwire in Chicago also - just got myself a last-minute room yesterday, as a matter of fact.

There is an Embassy Suites near the lakefront and river and ES are great when traveling with children.. Not in the Loop but a little north of the river in Streeterville, a very nice area east of Michigan Ave to the lake. Are you sure you want to stay in the Loop which is the business district?

Ditto to Happy Trvlr's comment, and there is also a the "Downtown" ES on State? (approximately even with the other, but on the other side). If you need to be in the loop for business or similar, the loop is an easy walk from the Downtown ES (not that the Lakefront ES is miles away, either).

thanks to all for suggestions - 'mid-priced' is roughly $225-$275 per night (considering the host city) - Monaco, Embassy, Alegro came in a little over $300/nt - so, I swallowed my pride and made reservations again with River Hotel for $250/nt (includes tax, etc)...it's actually a great location and clean and quiet, but they stiffed me previously on a late cancellation with a legitimate excuse, what can you do? again, thanks for the input

For future reference - Kimpton will match rates found elsewhere. Jetsetter.com often has some great sales, but you have to pay up front with no cancel. When you see a hotel/rate you like, try and find if the hotel will match it. Often times, they will - many chains do besides Kimtpon.
