I would try the fairfield inn by marriott. It is only a block off Michigan ave. and Is one of the more moderatly priced hotels in that area.

I was traveling to Chicago every week for 6 months and enjoyed staying at the Palmer House / Hilton. Excellent service, great location and great staff.

To "Did" the poster requested info on "reasonable" ...that would ax 90% of your list.

There was also a recent post about the Palmer House...there are much nicer hotels and unless on a business trip, better choices available then Wabash in the loop--I have people travel to Chicago often and no longer use this hotel due to complaints.

What's your price range?

Recently, we had a great stay at the Sofitel Water Tower. It just opened up last summer.

I've gotten great rates at hotels in chicago on quikbook.com. Did's list covers just about every price range. You might want to give us a better idea of what you consider reasonable. Also, if you will have a car with you, plan on about $30-35/day for parking. Mag mile is my favorite location-its in the center of everything, making things easy to walk to. Stayed at the Omni Chicago most recently and was very pleased with it. Least favorite hotel I've stayed at in Chicago was the Marriott on Michigan. Swisshotel has beautiful views of Lake Michigan. I wouldnt recommend staying by the Navy Pier if your trip is in the wintertime-too cold and windy. The navy Pier is better enjoyed in the warmer weather. Have a great trip. It's a great city.

Did...

What does "Not to me" mean? Clarify...

chi: it means they are not out of HIS budget...

Who cares about his budget?!?! Chuck wanted a resonable hotel...who cares that "did" knows the names of some of the better hotels in Chicago...
|
Chi

Actually many of these hotels are available for very reasonable prices (often under $100) if you work a bit. I would define that as 'reasonable' but perhaps your definition is different. Of course this would not include Ritz, 4 Seasons, Peninsula, Park Hyatt but would include many of the others.

As for me I live on Michigan Avenue so don't need the hotels.
|
It would require quite a bit of work to obtain any of those (except perhaps the Days Inn) for under $100. I also live & work on Michigan and travel people to the city often--I'm rarely able to reserve rooms for under $100 unless I'm having a large group in town.

did: under which cardboard box? I'll slip you a couple of bucks if I know which one to look under.

Hi, Just book a room at the Westin Michigan Ave for this week at $95 per night. (prepaid). Check quikbook.com and then hotel websites for best rates.

Chuck, I always enjoy the Hotel Monaco. It's a couple blocks to Michigan avenue, and very conveniently located. I paid $119 a few times, although I've heard people have gotten it cheaper through priceline.

It's a fun boutique hotel. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are decorated with funky pale green stripes and red accents. A big sun-shaped mirror is usually located somewhere near the bed. If you're feeling lonely, they'll give you a goldfish for your stay. Ask for a room facing the river, as some of the views are not so great.

They have wine reception in the afternoon. I have stayed in this hotel a few times, and have always been happy with it. I stayed at the Marriott on Michigan Avenue, and while I had a huge corner room with views of the lake, I thought the Hotel Monaco was more up my alley (although views are certainly nice!)

We liked Le Meridien, but it is expensive. What about the Lennox Suites? We met people who liked it and I believe it is less than $100/nite. It is is a great location. Has anyone stayed there?
|
Chicago Omni Suites on Magnificent Mile can usually get you a room for $140-150. Use an entertainment book rate if you need to. Great location and a very clean hotel.

Oprah

How did you guess? It is the box by the Water Tower with the plasma tv and laptop computer - 2 of life's main necessities.

Cathy is right about Westin and sometimes it goes as low as $65. So do some of the other places. Those of us who like to bargain shop appreciate those of you who don't as you help to make our cheaper rates possible.

Thank you.
