chicago hotel help

The first week of June, I'll be going to a convention at McCormick Convention Center in Chicago. I'd like to stay close to the convention center, but not at the McCormick Hotel because it has a three-night minimum. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm leaning toward the Allegro Hotel. Thanks for he help.

There aren't a lot of options in the McCormick Place area. Most of downtown is a 10-15 minute cab ride away. The closest large hotel would the Chicago Hilton at 720 S. Michigan. Avoid the Congress Plaza. Hotels on the east side of Michigan Avenue, between Grant Park and the river, also have easy access. Those would include the Swissotel, Fairmont and Hyatt Regency. There is also a convention bus that circulates from McCormick to the east side hotels.

The Allegro Hotel is in the heart of the loop, about 2 miles from the Convention Center. I have stayed there and love it. It is a boutique hotel which means it has more character than a typical big standard hotel. The rooms are small but "Fabulously" decorated. Its fun. The sister properties, the Burnham and the Monaco also have the same style and are centrally located if you want to do anything in the City, other than the convention.
Check out a play in the theatre district. Oliver is playing at one of the loop theaters, oh, but probably won't be in June. Anyway, Chicago in June is great. Walk along the lake front, you will love it.
If you want to be a litte closer to the convention center, you might want to check out the Chicago Hilton and Towers. It is a little closer and is at the very south end of the loop right across the street from the park. Big, fancy lobby, with standard nice rooms.
Enjoy my great city!

I was able to pull up a one night stay in the first week of June at the Hyatt McCormick by going to their website: http://mccormickplace.hyatt.com/rese...lability.jhtml

You don't really want to stay near the convention center, there is very little to do at night in that area and you certainly don't want to be walking around after dark.

In addition to the hotels already mentioned you might check out the Hard Rock Hotel which will be open by then, it's a new hotel in the renovated art deco Carbon and Carbide Building at 230 N. Michigan. It would be a little more convenient than the Allegro especially during the morning/evening rush hours. If your convention literature mentions using Metra (some conventions have free passes to use it), it is close to the Metra station at Randolph and Michigan which takes less than 10 minutes to get to McCormick Place. Hotel Burnham, Hotel Monaco or the Renaissance at 1 W. Wacker would also be convenient to Metra.
