chicago hotel

Will be in Chicago this Sept for the World Music Festival. Looking for a inexpensive hotel close to Navy Pier. Thanks

What do you consider 'inexpensive'? Your actual budget . . .

I've always had good luck with Hotwire in Chicago. The Streeterville area is closest to Navy Pier.

My budget is flexible. I would like to spend under $200, because I'm "cheap" and we won't spend much time in the room. I would also like two beds, twin beds would be fine, but i haven't found many twin rooms

The Doubletree on E. Ohio often has good rates.

I searched on Hotwire for the dates of the festival and found three hotels, 3* minimum, for under $200 in the Streeterville zone. (Not sure if the link will work, but: http://www.hotwire.com/hotel/results...earchTokenId=2 )

If you're concerned about what exact hotel you're getting, sites like betterbidding.com can help you try to figure it out, but in that zone with that many stars I'd say you're probably fine. And most hotels will let you request two beds after the fact (if you put three people in instead of two, you should get two beds automatically).

Maybe try the W hotel on Lake Shore Drive. That's very near Navy Pier. Quikbook.com might have some good rates. Also, the Holiday Inn Express is in a good area if you're not having any luck finding a good rate in Streeterville.

The Cass hotel is over a mile to Navy Pier - but you can walk down nice streets, or catch the 29 State Bus or 65 Grand to Navy Pier from Illinois Street -- it's a straight shot to the Pier, and a quick, quick ride.

Since it's September, and the weather will be pleasant, I wouldn't necessarily just look in the Streeterville neighborhood for a hotel. You can expand to Mag Mile and River North if you see good rates in these neighborhoods.

Buses run frequently from NAvy Pier to Michigan Avenue, and if all of you are in reasonably good health, the walks from Michigan Avenue to Navy Pier are down lively streets (Grand, Illlinois, Ohio) so walking isn't unpleasant.

Have fun in Chicago!

Try the River Hotel on Wacker. It is just a block west of Michigan Ave. A straight walk down to Navy Pier. The rooms are small but crisp and clean and the staff is wonderful.

The HI hostel has comfortable rooms with bunk beds in dorm rooms. My DW and I lucky enough to get lower bunks and only 1 other person in the room. Bathroom and laundry facility down the hall. Many college students live on the top floors.

We would stay there again to save a lot of money.
