I will be visiting Chicago from July 15-18 and would like to see the Cubs. The game is sold out. Does anyone have an idea how hard the tickets are to get outside the stadium and how expensive they are?

As they are playing well expect to pay a high ptice. I think getting them outside the stadium should be no problem.

I don't know if they still do this but when we went to a Cubs game a few years back they sold "Stamding Room" tickets for sold out games. It allows you to stand behind a yellow line.

If its not a particularly busy game you can usually find a place to sit up in the cheap seats.

You can try eBay. Occasionally there may be an ad in the Chicago Reader. Of course, tix can always be found outside the stadium. Scalpers..err I mean... Ticket Brokers will stand right outside the el trying to lure you - chances are they won't be cheap. I hear the going rate is $150/tkt. Good luck - you'll have a great time!

There are many ways to get tickets.

The most inexpesive way to get tickets is call them or go to the box office(at the park) first thing in the moring. The cubs release seats every morning, but there won't be many and they will go extremely FAST. IF you can't get a seat you can always get standing room only - but I hate this.

Outside the there are always scalpers but they won't be right outside - you will have to walk down clark or addison a block or two(it is illegal and cops watch right around the stadium)

Also near the stadium are many legal ticket brokers (The one I have used is near cubbie dogs on clark) expect to pay anything for 50-200 for a ticket

Also try broker sites on the web and clasfieds ( an ebay)

PS - bleacher seats at wrigley rock, very fun atmosphere(get there early if you want to sit)

We went in to a game last week, got tickets (4 together) from ticketsnow.com, they were good seats and cost $50 each. There were plenty of tickets to be had from scalpers and not at unreasonable prices ($30-75 each). The question is how many (together) do you need, do you have a strong preference on where you sit and how much do you want to pay. 15 minutes before the game the scalpers were dumping tickets for $10 but I have know idea where the seats were. Decide what's important to you and if you want the security of having the tickets in hand before you get there. If that's your priority go through a broker, if not, go down before the game, take your chances and enjoy Wrigleyville. No matter what, a bad day at Wrigley is better then a good day anywhere!

Do try going to the box office first thing the morning of the game. There will be a line - but there are often good seats available (people/players) turning back tickets. Otherwise, as previously noted, there are myriad ticket brokers around. You might also try going in to one of the (many) area bars and asking the doorman or bartender if they know of anyone with tickets to sell.

How realistic is the expectations of getting a ticket "dumped" by scalpers just before game time for cheap?

I'll be in town just one night (July 15) and only need one ticket. Would love to see my man, Dusty. But, I don't want to spend a fortune and will not be in town during the morning to go to the park.

if you don't want to spend alot of money, you can get standing room only, should be available before the game.
as far as tickets being dumped - its unlikely, and if it happens it wont be until the 3rd inning or so. But since you only need 1 you might have better chances. see what you can find the day of the game. if nothing afforable comes up then buy an sro

When ticketmaster sold cubs tickets you used to be able to call first thing in the morning also(just like going to the ball park) but now it tickets.com and I don't know if you can anymore
