Chicago--best ribs???
Which restaurant in Chicago serves to die for ribs? My husband loves them and I don't know where to go!
|
Portillos has terrific ribs. It's a chain and they are all over the place. I'm sure others will name some other rib places, but Portillos is pretty hard to beat, IMO.

Lots like Carson's and they can be delivered.
Others that are good are Nicky's and Mindy's in S. Suburbs. Actually I could name about 5 or 6 higher end than those above, but IMHO they all don't hold a candle to Leon's. Leon's rib tips are spectacular too. They are served with a slice of white bread. I don't know why. My dear neighbor would detour to get them for all of us, including my family, from his job at Joslyn's (workplace/factory)on the South side. They are located at 1649 East 79th St. There is just nothing like Leon's. Actually in the Black neighborhoods there are many others as well that are stands/shacks with just stand up space that have fabulous ribs, as well. Looking up the address, I now realize that there is a Leon's Lincoln Park now. I can't imagine the dichotomy of that. Inside joke, sorry. LOL! |
twin anchors bar and grill..not too far from wrigley...had them twice, almost 20 years apart..great both times

Twin Anchors and Carsons are great versions of the Chicago fall-of-the-bone variety of ribs which are not cooked over wood like "true" Barbecue. They are tender and good--but to some purists are decried as "meat jello."
The best combo of quality and accessibility for true smokey real-deal barbecue is at Honey 1 on Western Avenue in Bucktown (2241 N. Western). Chicago foodies rave about Honey 1--for good reason, it is the real deal, IMHO. Afterwards, go two blocks south to Margies Candies for fantastic old-school ice cream soda fountain creations. Especially great is their hot fudge. |
Meant "fall-OFF-the-bone" to describe the ribs at Carsons and Twin Anchors. But, really, go to Honey 1.
|
Leon's are the real thing. I have had Honey 1. They are good, but not IMHO as good as Leon's are. Leon's are true bbq and hotter. I'm addicted. The neighorhood is rather dangerous, I suppose.

Robinson's #1 Ribs in Oak Park. I thought they'd opened other locations. But, according to the web site, it looks like they're still only in Oak Park. Great ribs and great BBQ pork sandwiches.
Uncle Bub's in Westmont is also very good. I love the pork chops at Carson's. Unfortunately, I haven't had them for a long time 'cause they closed the Lombard restaurant. Never could understand that as they were always busy. |
My favorite ribs are from The Patio.
|
the correct answer is Twin Anchors. Wet and Dry ribs offered. Trivia: the movie "Return to Me" was filmed there.
|
Twin Anchors, hands down. Fun neighborhood too..
