Chicago and Baseball
Can anyone give me some places to send my parents to to eat around U.S. Cellular Field? Thanks.

U.S. Cellular Field is in an area bordered by the expressway, IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology), Bridgeport, and public housing areas. There are great differences within a couple of blocks and it is not a restaurant heavy area at all. Parts of it too are right now under fairly heavy construction of large townhouse (whole blocks) and re-doing old walk ups.
There are some places like Jimbos but they are rather young scene, bar, and sports venue types of places. Your parents are probably younger than I am, but most likely would like something better, IMHO (although I have eaten in the area with a son- pork chop sandwich hang out/ stand up type of thing etc.) My suggestion is to have them eat in China town and then go to the game. It's not far, but you do need a car and have to park twice. Immense choices there. And if coming from a downtown hotel, eat in the Loop and take the el to the Cell. Also, not anything like what you might find higher end downtown or in Chinatown or on Taylor Street (Italian) but you can get good food in the park, much better food than most major league fare. There is a sit down restaurant but it is attached to a certain ticket and time requirement- not a regular walk-up ticket buy. |
Unless the station is closed for repairs, you can take the El to Chinatown and then continue on to Cellular Field. However, I do agree that there are few real options for pre-game food going to a White Sox game. Now, if your parents were going to the Cubs.....

....then they would need to bring adult diapers or a porta-pottie- especially the female parent.

I will respectfully disagee. There are places to go in the Bridgeport neighborhood, mostly very casual (bar and grill, diner, carry-out, etc). If they want something a bit nicer, Franco's Ristorante is down the street from Comiskey... great Italian food. Go to metromix.com, and search in Bridgeport (if you're searching in the "find a restaurant" area on the left side of your screen, it will be categorized under "City South")... this will give you some other ideas.
All that said, Chinatown is also a great idea-- tons of great Chinese food(duh), and right on the way (Chinatown would also be under City South on metromix). |
I agree with you Jen, but given the variance of choices, especially if you're staying downtown- I want to keep them emptier for us.
LOL! |
Thanks folks. I didn't know what location (specifically) to search under at metromix - now I do. They'll probably take the Redline from The Loop and may just eat park food - but I wanted to also give them another option.
