We plan to be in Chicago Sunday night to Wednesday mornig early October.Have booked a hotel on MIchigan Ave.
Any recommendations of which sites to visit, resturants etc will be appreciated

When you're in Chicago you've gotta try Chicago pizza -- my favorite is Geno's East. It's very, very good. It is VERY casual, with writing all over the tables, walls, restroom stalls, etc. I've tried other Chicago pizzas, but Geno's is my favorite.

I've not tried it on my visits yet, but friends tell me the architectural boat tour is really worth doing. We were going to do it on our last visit but we weren't able to get to it.

If you provide a little more information, I'm sure the posters here would be happy to provide suggestions.

Who is "we"? A married couple, family with small children, family with adult children, several adults? Does anyone have any limitations with walking?

What are you interests? Do you enjoy museums? Sports? Outdoor activities? Shopping? Theatre? Concerts?

For restaurants, check www.metromix.com or www.chicagoreader.com. You can search by neighborhood, price or cuisine.

Definitely recommend the Chicago Arch. Foundation river cruise. Would definitely recommend it.

Agree with Citylights about needing more info. What types of museums would interest you? Chicago is a great city no matter what

It's also difficult to suggest restaurants without knowing budget.

How much are you comfortable spending, with or without alcohol, for dinner? Would you call yourself a foodie or are you more interested in traditional Chicago things like steak, Italian, hot dogs, pizza?

There are so many fantasic restaurants and chefs in the city, we will come up with great recommendations for you with more to go on.

P.S. If you want to follow Samsaf's pizza reco you should know it's spelled Gino's not Geno's.

There are a lot of recent Chicago threads here -- would recommend a board search.

RE: searches on the forum. I do agree searching about information on a city's attractions can be helpful. However, IMHO, it really would be better if the OP gave more information about themselves with respect to restaurants and entertainment.

For example, in the past, I have recommend restaurants to certain individuals based on specific criteria (ages of the party and number, budget ranges, atmosphere desired, area of the city, etc.). That doesn't mean I would recommend that same restaurant to just anyone.

johngfl1, please give us a little more information so we can provide you with some meaningful suggestions.

exiledprincess, I'm pretty much in agreement with your most recent post. If someone wants help here, they really need to tell us more about themselves: age, likes and dislikes, budget, and such.

I've always felt that it's wise, though, for thread starters to do some forum searching or Fodor's/Frommer's guide type poking around before their initial posts, as they can frequently answer several questions this way. I always do so, myself. Some folks don't seem to, for whatever reason -- and I usually assume it's because they haven't thought of doing a site search. It's most informative to do so.
