Chicago - 8/23-27

Going to Chicago this weekend for our 27th anniversary and hubby is running in the triathlon on Sunday. We have tickets for the 8:00 p.m. Thurs. night Second City ETC performance and would like a good place to eat prior. Also would like a restaurant recommendation for our anniversary -- ~$100 total price - steak, italian, mexican choices (sushi okay, but I don't eat sushi, so other menu items would be needed). We will be staying at the Chicago Hilton without a car. Oh, and a good hot dog place, too!! Thanks.

For steaks, the Chicago Chop House at 60 W Ontario (near LaSalle). It's a short cab ride from both the Hilton and Second City or you can use public transit.

Italian Village on Monroe & Dearborn is always a good choice too.

Jill - we were just in Chicago Aug 10 - 12 and saw the main stage show at Second City. Based on prior recommendations on this site, we ate at the Adobo Grill, which is right next door to the theater. We had a group of 8, and everyone loved it. Authentic Mexican food - with very fresh ingredients. They make fresh guacomole for you at your table, and I hear the Margaritas were excellent as well.

Citylights - thanks for your input. Are you a local?

Russ - I made notes from your previous post, especially that of Adobo Grill since we're going to Second City ETC. - thanks.

I would also recommend Keefer's for steaks.

Yes Jillh, I live on the far north side near Loyola Univ and work in west loop. Other good places for steak are are Rosebud Steak House on Delaware next to The Drake Hotel or The Grill Room, about a half block east of Italian Village on Monroe.

I should have mentioned that Italian Village is actually 3 restaurants. The Village is on the second floor and a traditional menu. Vivere is on the main floor and more new age and The Cantina is on the lower level and focuses on steak & seafood. Check their site at www.italianvillage-chicago.com.
